I've been with my wife for like 30 years, and many many years ago, when we were just young and more-or-less just a'courtin' we went to some bohemian media-types party (we fit that bill back then) and it was in Toronto or some shithole like that and some officious methodist on the door with a tie says "and who are you?" and my sweet lady says "We're mass murderers. Where are the most people?" and I love her dearly. "Common knowledge" is often wrong. It's "common knowledge" in the UK that authorities there decided to rename the Christmas holidays "Winterval." They didn't. One council decided to use the term for a marketing campaign for a range of events, holiday and non-holiday, secular and non-secular, that took place during one winter. Thanks to the collusion of the media (one tabloid ran 44 stories about it, then years later bury a three-sentence correction), this is now cited by many as proof of "political correctness" about the holidays. Snopes.com is full of urban legends everybody "knows" to be true that aren't. And I didn't ask for a list. I asked the OP to back up three specific claims he made: 1) "There are schools here in New Zealand that refuse to keep score of sports because that would mean one team / player is then the 'loser,' and that's a 'politically correct' no-no." 2) "They also give out awards certificates to EVERY kid, making the certificate pointless." 3) "You also are not allowed to say "disabled person" because that means the perosn [sic] is seen as disabled first." He refuses to provide anything but his say-so, and the unsupported word of a Usenet poster isn't worth the pixels used to form it. -- D.F. Manno | dfmanno@mail.com GOP delenda est!

That is common around here at the grade-school level, not just in schools but also in leagues. It doesn't start to change until about 10-11 year-olds. > 2) "They also give out awards certificates to EVERY kid, making the > certificate pointless." That is certainly the case at the school where my wife teaches. When they do awards (twice a year!) every child is supposed to get an award for something. My wife ignores this. > 3) "You also are not allowed to say "disabled person" because that means > the perosn [sic] is seen as disabled first." That is also true here. In fact, saying disabled will get you into trouble. I have a hearing impairment, but I'm not deaf. I guess that one could
say I'm hard of hearing, but that term is vague. So "{insert
disability} impairment" does make sense. Also, it indicates the kind
of disability, whereas saying "disabled" doesn't give any indication of
that. Also an impairment might not be as serious as "disabled" can
mean.

Sure you are. Say it as much as you like. If the purported candidate of
your speech informs you they aren't disabled or aren't a person, then
you should moderate your speech to avoid offending them, but you can
also say "fuck you, I say whateverr I like". See: you've got choices at
every pass.

No you don't.

Seems you keep yourself from saying WAY too much. Relax!

Someone snipped off the start ... the point was that was just an
example of how the "politically correct" morons insist you are supposed
say things that way.

Yeah, like saying "abortion is murder" or calling birth control abortion, or "preserving the sanctity of marriage" or "traditional marriage" means "oppression and bigotry directed against gays", right?

That changes nothing. The only political activity I note, is people
reciting the myth of an invisible army that constricts their use of
speech. By-and-large, it is a political invention to recite how the
(implied liberal) PC Police are persecuting you for using acceptable
speech like "disabled" "merry Christmas" and a boat load of other
nonsense.
Of course calling people "cripples", "fatsos", "jigaboos" and
"wetbacks" will get you some pushback. Soldiers for Fox should expect
to encounter political pushback for their political ploys. They can
call this anti-PC or they can call it what it is, agitprop.
