I've got a MacBook Pro 17" (MacBook Pro 8,3) with a Snow Leopard partition and a Mavericks partition. The Mavericks system developed a disk problem. Disk Utility said it couldn't be repaired and to re-install the system off back-up (dling the os). This was off the Recovery partition. Unfortunately, I couldn't do that as I got some message saying I had no internet connection. Don't know why that popped up but I decided to try booting from the Snow Leopard system. That worked fine but the Mavericks system became unavailable. I decided to wipe the Mavericks partition (Disk Util erase) and install Snow Leopard on it and upgrade to Mavericks using my backup along the way. Unfortunately, while I could install 10.6.6 off the dvd (this is a special system install for this machine) it would not upgrade to 10.6.8. The upgrade downloads but will hang on the reboot. I've tried it twice with the same result. I even tried simply logging off the newly installed 10.6.6 system. It just hung. I'm thinking I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and make a Genius bar appointment but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. It occurred to me that I might be able to install 10.10.3 by using the working Snow Leopard 10.6.8 system to access the app store but I believe that's only good for upgrading the system that accessing the app store. Is that right?
