What about the PPC versions of 7.x, 8.x and 9.x? - I also thought this until I got really familiar with the use of ResEdit. After this I modified some of the OS 8.x and 9.x version - especially 8.6, 9.0.4, 9.1 and 9.2.x by allocating more internal memory to each and every possible part of the systems. This indeed increased both speed and performance. My 'monster' is a completely modified OS 9.2.2 running bootable on a MDD 1,25ghz, but it also swollows apprx. 140mb of memory to the system.:-) - Some app versions are just as fast as the same versions on my MacPro1.1 - such as AppleWorks 6.2.x, Freehand MX 11.x, Photoshop CS1, Canvas 8 and more... And until today the 'Monster 9.2.2' has never had an unprovoked freeze or breakdown...
