Recently OS 10.7.5 on my Macbook Air has been increasingly doing something that it never did before (or did only very rarely). I notice it most when I'm using TexShop, but I think it comes from the OS rather than from TexShop, as it also sometimes happens when I'm not in TexShop. In the past, if I clicked somewhere in a document the pointer would go to that point, and if I double-clicked it would select the word I clicked on. Increasingly often, however, it behaves as if I had the ctrl key down at the time of my action. So, instead of selecting the word I clicked on it offers a pop-up menu that I don't usually want. In the Finder, for example, clicking on "Macintosh HD" gives a menu that starts with Open, Get Info, etc. In TexShop it starts with "Sync", but the principle is the same. This has had one good effect in that I have learned how to make the Ctrl key a lot more useful than I ever did before, but I find it absolutely maddening to be offered a menu when I haven't asked for one (and when it refuses to go away). I thought there might be a Preference set somewhere in the Systems Preferences that causes this behaviour, but I can't find one. Is there any way to switch it off, so that I only get a menu if the ctrl key is down? There is nothing to suggest that the ctrl key is sticking, incidentally. -- athel
