fusion is faster than a stock hd, but for a real boost, skip fusion
entirely, get an ssd and keep the large assets on a separate drive.

do the restore from the time machine archive and let the computer
figure out what the most recent is.

the computer has to boot off of something to restore the time machine
archive, so you'll need to do an internet recovery.
