Király: > What is it about Finder that has people wanting to put the word "The" in > front of it? I never hear "The Mail" "The Automator" "The Calendar" "The > Safari" or "The Contacts". > If Finder was a country it would be Ukraine. Perhaps, if it wasn't The Sudan or The Yemen, The United Arab Emirates, The United Kingdom, The United States, The Congo, or The Netherlands. The answer to your question is that The Mail, The Automator, The Safari, and some others don't sound quite right. "The Finder" sounds just fine, but if you disagree, then you should most certainly call it "Finder." Sometimes omitting "the" can make for a clumsy sentence. "What time is the Smith's party?" "I forget. Check Calendar." Not so good, IMO. "I forget. Check the Calendar." "To copy a file, you must first open Finder." Acceptable, perhaps, but "To copy a file, you must first open the Finder" sounds better to me. -- I agree with almost everything that you have said and almost everything that you will say in your entire life. usenet *at* davidillig dawt cawm
