finder icon problem

current system 10.14.1

i use several folders in very large icon view so i can see my digital
art well. 
it's always worked quite well... until recently

i have folders with several hundred 200 MB .tif s

and it appears that the finder has simply given up on trying to produce
those large icons

it's been more than 10 minutes since i opened the folder with 168 200
MB files and only about half of the files are showing the icon

? am i the only one facing this

? is this a known issue

? you you suggest a fix
