That's because I decided not to post about how the very unfair fight
against our original inhabitants is not really to be so described.

Or you could stop being semi-pedantic and realize that these groups are
US centric. But you knew that.

It is not pedantic or semi-pedantic or any-pedantic to show a mild
irritability with the assumptions of some people.

Strip everyone of all assumptions. All that's left is math.

No, the moth comes first and eats your clothes. That's why the people
end up stripped.

Oh I don't know, Leonard... that is a bit severe. All of human life
and science is based on assumptions. As for mathematics, it needs to
be applied to be useful, that is where assumptions that could irritate
could creep in. I seem to irritate people on usenet without making any
assumptions, so maybe we should not condemn assumptions per se... <g>

Propose a reasonable way to quantify such a thing and then you can see

No idea, never been there. :-p

Of course, Australians do apprently tend to claim every New Zealand
born "celebrity" who becomes famous as their own, as well as many New
Zeland inventions ... not that I care since I'm not a New Zealander
either.

Then there's the New Zealand media, which makes a massive deal about
any connection with a famous person, place, or event, no matter how
insignificant that connection actually is.

So what does a young Norwegian such as you, do in New Zealand?

I'm not Norwegian either ... but judging recent(ish) news stories,
young Europeas come here to be beaten up, raped, killed, partly thanks
to their own stupidity in hitchhiking around the country. :-(

Perhaps tourists travel to NZ to sample the local sheep, and the sheep
are fighting back ?

You say that as a joke, but one of the few "theme parks" (more like
lectures, a museum, and trained animal shows) here is called The
Agrodome which is actually *is* all about sheep.
http://www.agrodome.co.nz
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LI98uSGcno

A couple of years ago there was also a big media fuss over a sheep that
had been caught after hiding in the wilderness and hadn't been to the
shearing shed for years, so was very woolly.

Just about proves the "high" level of "exciting" and "interesting"
things that happen here. :-\

I forgot until I saw the advert last night for the new season, there's
also a locally made "reality" TV series called The Shearing Gang which
follows the "fun and excitement" of a group of sheep shearers. :-\

BTW, Canada also has lots of sheep, we just don't brag about it. On the
other hand, NZ is superior because they don't export stuff like Justin
Bieber.

You obviously (and luckily) haven't seen the silly soap opera Shortland
Street (there are good reasons it is nicknamed Sh*tland Street) nor
Temuera Morrison's "acting" abilitiy (let alone his "singing" and
"comedic" abilities). There are also numerous F-grade New Zealand
"actors" trying to "make it big" in Hollyweird, plus New Zealand tries
to claim Russell Crowe.
