If you think being insular is a trait only Americans hold, you are
extremely naive or disingenuous (both of which seem to be traits you
display frequently).

I have no idea how "credible" it is, but ...

According to that list, the United Kingdom and New Zealand both beat
Australia and the United States, and Singapore is the most intelligent
country. :-)

The OP?

He very could have been serious: 1939 was 75 years ago. The Civil war ended
149 years ago.

Yup! my 90 year old, Mac using father was born in 1923. The US Civil
war ended in 1865, 58 years earlier.

Oddly enough one of my grandfathers would have been old enough, just,
to have fought in the American Civil War.

...and one of my Great-Grandfathers actually fought in the Civil War,
or for the benefit of "furners", "The War Between the States". As a
teenager he was thrust into the fight at the Battle of Chickamauga when
the War reached the outskirts of LaFayette, GA., where he, my
grandfather and father were born.

That's what Gramps Gentry and Ain' Hassie thought it was.
Though my grandfather, my father, and two uncles ended up in Upstate NY
after my Grandmother died in LaFayette in the 1920's.
...and here I am in California.
