The learning curve for setting up the app is > slightly steep and the documentation leaves a bit to be desired. It's rather simple. As shown here, you just use the editor_command setting in your ~/.slrnrc file: <http://slrn.sourceforge.net/docs/slrn-manual-6.html#ss6.20> Like so: set editor_command "editorcommandhere" For instance, here's mine, which set automatic hard line wrapping at 72 characters and enables the vim colorized spell checker: set editor_command "vim --cmd 'set textwidth=72' --cmd 'set spell' --cmd 'hi clear SpellBad' --cmd 'hi SpellBad cterm=underline ctermfg=red' +%d '%s'" Substitute your preferred command-line editor. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. Any updates for this thread? I'm... trying to come back to USENET, but if I can't find a decent newsreader, I'll give up. I'm using the Unison trial for now, and individual.net, but those will both expire in a few days. Whether I re-up is up in the air.

I'm happy. I second individual.net for text only group access - cheap, decent spam filtering, extremely reliable. -- If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

I haven't ever needed to access much binary content on Usenet. What do most folks who do access Usenet for binaries use it for anyway? -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. I often ignore posts from Google. I haven't ever needed to > access much binary content on Usenet. What do most folks who do access > Usenet for binaries use it for anyway? It's been years, but for me it was pre-BitTorrent file sharing, and later just browsing around now and again to see what people were posting. But it has been a number of years since I either had an ISP with a Usenet server, or bothered paying for one with binary groups. I can't say I miss it. BitTorrent is so much better - no worries about retention, which was always an issue for Usenet binaries. That said, now I've US Netflix, Hulu, etc, I use BitTorrent a lot less, which is a good thing. I have never been a pirate because I like the pirate lifestyle, heh. Instead I pirate because I often could not find legit sources of content for a reasonable price, especially here in New Zealand and prior to me getting fibre ultra-fast broadband which can handle geo-unlocked ( I use <www.unotelly.com> ) streams from services like US Netflix. -- If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
