And the most recent beta had been released a few days earlier.

True but as been said earlier if Ant was referring to a security
update/patch I suppose his statement was accurate.

This web page, at least as it appears in southern California, shows the
Mountain Lion icon (still, I waited a couple days before mentioning this
here) for the Mavericks and Yosemite versions of Security Update 2015-002.
Ditto for https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1797 (Mavericks-specific page)
and probably some others.

I'm curious what the rest of the world is seeing...?

Same here, if I look at the main page, but if I go to the search section
(Broswe by Product) and then choose Mac OS, it gets the correct icons.

Oddly, if I go to the detail page for the Mavericks or Yosemite updates,
it shows the same icon I just saw on whichever listing page I used to
get to it, and it seems to be consistent.

In detail:

1. <http://support.apple.com/downloads> shows Mountain Lion icons for
the Mavericks and Yosemite security updates.

2. If I click on the Mavericks update (for example) from that page I get
to <https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1797?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US>,
which shows the Mountain Lion icon.

3. If I go to <https://support.apple.com/downloads#macos> I see the
correct icons.

4. If I then click on the Mavericks update, I end up at the same URL as
in #2 above, but now with the correct icon.

I can have both the Mavericks detail pages open in tabs showing
different icons on the same page.

5. Refreshing either Mavericks update page changes icon according to
whichever route was followed most recently to access that page.

6. Firefox and Safari behave the same.

7. Deleting web browser caches for Apple doesn't help.

Weird.
