How would you run 1Password on an iMac and iPad? Would the master password be common between the two apps. I assume that log in passwords to web sites would be the same, ditto bank, email and other log ins. It's just the initial setting up that bothers me, and I hope the gurus here can clear up my confusion. Peter -- - The e-mail address obviously doesn't exist. Only one user account per database.
Pedantically, the password is salted (to prevent dictionary/rainbow
attacks), then used to make a hashed encryption key that is used to
encrypt the key that encrypts the data.
That way, when you change passwords, only the data encryption key needs
to be decrypted (old password/salt/key) and then re-encrypted with the
new. The password data itself doesn't need to be de-crypted and
re-encrypted.
(Or appropriate variations on the above).

There are a few nits (some websites don't cooperate perfectly with 1PW).
Get familiar with the manual edit.
You use Dropbox or iCloud to sync. Same master PW.
However, for "key" accounts, I would not use a random pw gen'd by 1PW
but something I could remember. Esp. the following accounts:
AppleID
Dropbox
my ISP POP Mail password
Other than that I allow 1 PW to choose the passwords for me (15 chars or
more). Some sites only allow 8 - 12 chars, however.

I'll rescind that. (I recently had a mix up between my ISP user
account and e-mail account passwords, resolved, and no issue wrt 1PW).
POP? For my personal mail it's fine and has been for nearly 20 years on
the same account.
I've used IMAP for my gmail and it's a mess with Apple Mail - each
"account" ends up with 2 folders, messages that were read are marked
unread, and so on. Back to POP.

Not practical in my case. Too much 'rooted' at my primary bank
(mortgage, RSP's, various accounts, trusts).
That bank does have a good challenge/response system meaning hackers
could not bang away BFing the password.

I log into iCloud and support pages with 1PW without issue.
But when updating iTunes (iPhone) that needs the password, or buying
music, then I have to go copy it from 1P or type it in.

Write to them and encourage other customers that you know to do the
same. It's a silly restriction in 2014. (Or 2004 for that matter).

I've had 1Password on the Mac for many years and on the iPhone for probably a year, but I've never *used* it on the iphone--I can't figure out how. I go to a page on Safari (on iPhone), say the NYTimes Archives. It asks for my password and I can't figure out how I'm supposed to get it in, short of leaving the program, opening 1Password, find the NYT login trying to memorize the password and ID, and then reloading Safari and going through the endless tedium of typing it all in. I just forget about it and wait till I get home. Any ideas on this?
