No. Set the view in iTunes to Album View, and next time you synch,
tracks should be in order on your iPod.

I've only been able to shrink them in a couple places, but I did finally
get rid of the other stuff in my way in Songs. I have that and
Playlists under control and I got my books and apps straightened out,
too.

How To Post Screen Shots To Newsgroups

You can post a screenshot link using a service like ImageShack.
ImageShack is an easy-to-use free media hosting service. It can be used
to upload images. Registration is not required in order to upload files.

1. On your keyboard, press Command-Shift-4.
2. On your keyboard, press the space bar.
3. Click the window you want. A picture file will appear on the desktop.
4. Go to <http://imageshack.us/> or <http://tinypic.com>.
5. Click Browse, then navigate to and select the picture file.
6. Click "Upload Now".
7. Paste the "Direct link to image" URL in a newsgroup message.

without the sidebar: At the far left, just below the play controls is
a popup menu; choose "Music" from it. To its right is a horizontal
listing, the second of which is "Music"; click it. You should now see
a list of all your music.

No, I see a page full of album covers. That is not a list.

In bits and pieces, spread out by meaningless gray blobs and album covers
for even single songs.

The View Options dialog lets you choose whether to show album covers or
not. If you don't want to display the album covers, turn off that
option. That should also remove the grey blobs.

I do not see that option in my iTunes, excepting when Song View is
selected, Michelle, just a couple of ways to order display in Albums and
the other views.

Erilar: What works for me is to always select "Songs", after turning off
show covers under Song->View Options. Then sort by Albums within that list.

If you don't show Albums, hold down Control key while clicking in any
column header, then select Album.

once you turn the sidebar back on, it should be about the same as what
you had before.

I really wish it were. There are whole areas where I can get nothing
but album covers(which used to be at the bottom of the playlist if I
wanted them there), many of which are blank anyway. My iTunes library
contains a high percentage of LPs and tapes I converted some time ago.

Well, you're reticence to change gives you few options at this point.

If your old features are more important that being able to synch to a
new iPad, wipe your entire system and restore it to before you did your
iTunes upgrade. Then sell the iPad on eBay.

The interface for the OS and applications will change sometimes between
upgrades. Unless you have a need to upgrade (in this case a new iPad),
you're going to have to have to move through your hesitancy to change to
embrace and get used to the new things in order to use the new iPad with
the new iTunes. Or do without the new things.

Your call. And it's OK if it's on a rotary phone.
The phone company still allows that.

not necessarily.

verizon is pushing 'upgrading' your house to digital as part of fios,
which will only work with touchtone phones. rotary phones can only be
used to answer calls.

I used to be more willing to change when software was reasonably
back-compatible 8-)
It's this new habit of cutting that off rather abruptly that irritates me
so much. I had no problems with new tech until pretty recently, but i've
had a series of rather large problems with supposed "up"grades in the last
few years.
On the other hand, I got my ham license before transistors.

oh, my landline has buttons to push, even though it's not new. Cell phones
don't work well underground, so I only have a stupid one for use away from
home.

Oh, I found that. I'm fairly good at poking around. My complaints are
more about totally missing features.

You have yet to name a single missing feature in iTunes 11.

Here's one (I would love to be wrong about this): Playlists cannot
open in another window, and the simplicity of dragging and dropping
songs into them has been lost.

Yeah, lots of this type of stuff changed. I'm still finding the new
ways of doing things.

Here's what you can do now, and it probably is an improvement over
opening the playlist in a separate window.

Go to Music/Playlists. Select the playlist you want to add to. Then
click the Add-To icon over on the right margin near the top. That
will leave your playlist open in a column on the right while showing
your Song list on the left. Now you can drag and drop from the main
list to the playlist.

Unfortunately, that playlist display insists on showing (small) album
covers, so it takes up more room that it really needs to.
