#19165 — More issues with Mail and Gmail

SubjectMore issues with Mail and Gmail

Had an issue with the Mail app and Gmail a few weeks ago and it resolved itself,
but I've got another issue going on that I'm not sure how to fix.

OS 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro using Mail version 4.6. I have my Gmail account and
two other SMTP accounts in Mail.

When I get my mail, all the messages from all accounts show up, and I read and
delete as usual in the main Inbox.

However, if I happen to check another mailbox -- for instance, a junk mailbox --
and then go back to the main inbox, the messages I deleted show up again. This
happens even if I delete messages using the Mailbox > Erase Deleted Items
command, for Gmail, "On My Mac" and "In All Accounts."

I have to go to the Gmail site and delete the messages there before they vanish
from my Inbox.

I'm not sure how to fix this. It's annoying as all get out and it didn't used to
behave like that. If I deleted a Gmail message in my Inbox, it stayed deleted.

I had read that but unless I overlooked something, I didn't see the solution to
this particular problem.

Apple has released an update of mail.app to appleseed developers for
testing as a result of this problem.

That's not likely to help him, since he's still on Snow Leopard.

Update: I tried the "Use this Mailbox for..." tip and it may have worked. Don't
know why this problem just manifested itself recently when I had been using Mail
and Gmail without issues for a few years.

Actually, it didn't work. Back to square one. Grrrr....

I would really prefer not to have to use the Gmail website or my iDevices to
read and delete messages when Mail on my MacBook Pro used to work just fine.

I posted earlier that my Mail had no new problems. But after a while, I
realized that certain messages show up on the iPad but not on the desktop.

What appears to be happening is that when I delete a message in Mail, it does
not get flagged to be deleted (moved to Trash) on Gmail's server. So when I go
back to the inbox in Mail, the deleted messages reappear. If I go onto the Gmail
site and delete them there, they no longer show up in the inbox in Mail.

And if I delete a bunch of unread messages on the Gmail site, they will show up
as unread messages in the trash in Mail.

That one has never happened to me. But I get e-mails about things that
happen on a support site for webtrees (software). Since 10.9, I no
longer get those on the Mac, but I still get them on the iPad.

Everything else in mail seems to be working the same as before (which
wasn't anything for Apple or Google to brag about).
