In MTNW, the thread hierarchy was in a separate window from the article
content.  In Thoth it is at the top of the article window.  Is there
any way to remove it from the article window and display it in a
separate window as MTNW did?

I don't remember seeing that in MTNW, but that may have been because of 
some setting I had made.

In Thoth it appears that all you can do with the thread hierarchy is 
turn it on or off, no seperate window.

Well, only the first message in each hierarchy is shown in the window
until and unless you click on the disclosure triangle; then the
hierarchy is shown.

Are you talking about somehow displaying the top part of a Thoth
article window separately
