Message-ID<SO-dnaQ__qkoQg3SnZ2dnUVZ_j2dnZ2d@earthlink.com>
Hello.

I have a client's Mac OS X 10.5.8 with all the latest updates. His Flash
Player plugin v10.3.183.18 does not show up (not installed) in his old
Safari v5.0.6. It works fine in old Firefox v3.6.28 though. And yes, I
redownloaded and reinstalled Flash Player plugin. What's wrong?

Thank you in advance. :)

Is that 10.5.8 on a PPC system?

If so, you are out of luck. I had to go back to Flash Player V9 after
Adobe discontinued support for PPC systems.

On my rev3 iSight iMac (PPC) running 10.5.8, I have Flash Player.plugin
v10.1 r102 in the main Library/Internet Plug-ins/ folder

The last v10.1 version for PPC that I had had some serious
vulnerabilities, and I discovered that PPC had been dropped when I tried
to update it. That was when I went back to V9.

V9 didn't have serious vulnerabilities?

Dunno, but in my efforts to update V10, I deleted that and then of course
couldn't find another version to download.

Something I've noticed on Windows systems is that the Flash installer
deletes itself when you run it. I'm not sure about the Mac version.

I think Windows' is the downloader for the installer. I always get the
full installer. Mac seems to use a full installer when you download it.

This (10.1.102.64) is Adobe's last PPC version.

Updates since I had more free time on a CATurday. ;) I found a Flash
uninstaller from Adobe's KB web site so I downloaded it, ran it, tested
to see if Firefox said no Flash (confirmed), and then reinstalled Flash
but it did not fix Safari's plug-in problem. I also noticed this in Mac

Note the last few lines. I wonder if those are causing Flash plugin not
to show up in Safari. :(

I also got help in my http://forums.adobe.com/message/4349097 forum
thread, but no resolutions yet. I do see Flash's plug-in in Library >
Internet Plug-ins folder. I don't know if there are supposed to be other
non-Flash plugins as well beside disabled Java that I did last week.

Wow, this is crazy. I figured out what happened. Disabling Java plugins
in Mac OS X 10.5.8's Utilities' Java Preferences will remove ALL
plug-ins in Safari. Why? I DON'T KNOW! [gets slimed] I don't know if
this is a glitch on this old specific MacBook Pro (15"; 2008) or an
actual bug on all Mac OS X 10.5.8 machines. It would be nice if someone
else, with this OS version, to try it and see if it happens there.
