Updated 10.13.5 yesterday on this iMac.
Everything else is fine (AFAICT), but Apple Mail has a peculiar bug:
When I compose an e-mail, text entered in the body area has a terrible
lag of about 2 seconds per character typed. (Entering To: and subject
fields is no issue).
I've re-started Mail, but that hasn't improved it. Workaround at
present is to compose in text and copy/paste that when ready.
I'll re-boot later and see how that goes.

Anything jump out in Activity Monitor? -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. I often ignore posts from Google. Use a real news client instead. JR

I indeed should look there first. CPU's were very unloaded. Memory is
14 GB free (of 24).
All of a sudden the "slowdown" had gone away. It was persistent for
about half an hour.
Just got yelled at to fire up the charcoal, so I'll try to look at the
logs tomorrow.

Searched the various logs for 9 and 10 June (day I updated the system
and day the slowdown occurred) and nothing other than an innocuous Mail
report about its status and uptime...
As mentioned in another post - all seems normal now ... we'll see.
