It's an old app that is not a 64-bit compatible app so isn't
"optimized" for macOS Mojave (10.14). Under the up-coming macOS, apps
that are not 64-bit won't run "as efficiently" (according to Apple) and
in some future version of the OS support for such old apps will be
dropped.

You could of course still run it in an emulator / virtualisation app
(assuming someone makes one) running an older OS version.

Technically Quicktime 7 is already "obsolete" since it's been replaced
by Quicktime X and won't ever be updated, but some people still prefer
the old version due to some of the functionailty it has (in registerd
'Pro' mode) which is not available in Quicktime X.

That's the first I've heard of the name "Mojave". Can someone tell me
how it is supposed to be pronounced?

Really?? It's a fairly famous place.

Easier for you to hear it yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHDwWq0K89c

Basically it's the Mexican "j" which is pronounced as an "h", like the
common Mexican name "Jesus" is pronounced "hey-zeus".

Apple *really* *really* needs drop these silly and meaningless names,
and just stick to version numbers. The only way to remember that
"Mojave" is newer than "Sierra" or "Leopard" is by memorising the list
in order (or looking it up every time you forget). :-\

Nah. There are version numbers. You can ignore the names if you want;
but we all know you don't want to, because then you wouldn't have yet
another Apple criticism to whine about. Most software companies use code
names for software that is in development. Some companies let those
names live on after release; others don't. Apple isn't doing anything
special in this regard. No need to get your panties twisted about it.
It's just a name, and there are indeed version numbers assigned to every
release that you are free to use instead.

> The only way to remember that
> "Mojave" is newer than "Sierra" or "Leopard" is by memorising the list

Then stop referring to the names and use the version numbers instead.
Simple. How do I know this works? Because I do it myself. Give it a
shot, big guy. You can do it!

Properly, it is moe HA veh (the short e at the eend like the e in
'education'). But the gringo/anglicized pronunciation is "Moe HA vee"
and that is also perfectly correct.

Moe as in the name, or like the start of more poor sore, etc.

Stress on the HA with a short 'apple' a.

It is 32 bit and relies on 32 bit libraries and APIs that will be
removed in 10.15.

It's been replaced by QuickTime X, which happened many years ago.

Despite the name, QuickTime X does not use the QuickTime libraries.

I thought the "64 to 32 bit" thread indicated that 32-bit applications
wouldn't go away they would just make the OS operate "less efficiently".

32-bit apps aren't "optimised", so they (and/or the OS) may run "less
efficiently" in macOS 10.14 'Mojave' released later this year. Most
users and most apps may not even notice any difference.

Reportedly 32-bit apps will not run at all in macOS 10.15, due for
release towards the end of next year.

But it remains to be seen exactly what will and won't happen as those
versions of macOS are actually released and used in real-world settings.

It has been reported as being announced at WWDC. ;-)
I don't know about you, but I wasn't there to hear it myself and
haven't watched the entire Keynote video.

But what actually happens between now and the release of macOS 10.15
could be very different.

It's announced around 20 minute mark, but they don't reference any
