Is there no way to rotate recorded videos in Mac OS Sierra v10.12.6's Photos
app like with photos? I see options to do that, but they are not clickable. It
has to be done outside of it like with QuickTime from what I read on the
Internet. The videos were imported from an iPhone 6+.

the internet is wrong. it can easily be done in quicktime player 7.

go/s1600/rotate+movie+pref.jpg>

however, you will need to 'upgrade' from quicktime x.

Seems I remember Handbrake will do that. Not positive.

that modifies the actual video.

quicktime player rotates it on the fly.

Yep, Handbrake has a four step Rotate option (0, 90, 180, 270) and a
Flip option (horizontal) under the Filters tab.

While a bit silly in some ways, you can also import the video into
Keynote and then rotate it and export it.

You can rotate the video, but you can't re-save it in a rotated format
... other than saving the Keynote presentation itself as a movie.

I've had QT7 for a lot of years. It amazes me that it still works like
a champ and does things QT10 can't do. It cost me a modest sum but has
been available to do much for a long time. The registration code could
become a family heirloom. It has to go away at some point, doesn't it?

Not really much of an heirloom then. ;-)
It won't work "as efficiently" (or even maybe not at all) in macOS X
10.14 because of the move to 64-bit.

it's 32 bit, so next year it will run 'with compromises' and likely not
at all the following year.

Damn! There goes the dowry, but I got my money's worth. I just updated
BBEdit. The only other app that will impact me is Thoth. My Usenet has
been: Newswatcher->MT-Newswatcher->Thoth. By the time Thoth dies, in a
year or two, Usenet may be dead too. It's already on life support.
Hell, I may be dead then, so it will all work out.

Not .265 compatible AFAICT.
32 bit.
Too bad. It's quite versatile for the modest $ I paid many years ago.

Would it be fair to state that the replacement for Quicktime 7 Pro is
iMovie ?

But using a car with a tricycle isn't really a "replacement", per se.

The "replacement" for QT7Pro, at least for me, is folder full of
utiltiies which would include iMovie, Screenflow, Handbrake, mp4tools,
mp4joiner and the like.

those are apps.

quicktime 7 is a part of the operating system, although not for long.
its replacement is quicktime x.

any app that uses qt7 will cease to function when qt7 goes away. some
might be updated. some (probably most) won't.

What app uses qt7, I wonder?

Quicktime 7 *was* part of the operating system and there may be some
legacy parts still left over in High Sierra (10.13), but Quicktime X
technically replaced it way back in 2009 - nearly 10 years ago.
(Admittedly the last update to Quicktime 7 was January 2016 though.)

Nothing relatively new and a lot of it probably doesn't even still work
on the newer macOS versions for various reasons.

What would those bee?

If I understand correctly, the point above is that QT7 was *systemic*,
not simply a stand-alone app. As such it was then relaced for
*systemic use* by QTX, not simply a stand-alone app. As a systemic
mechanism, I'm wondering what app(s) make (made?) systemic currently
use of QTX, and demonstrate its not-just-app utility.

"Quicktime" is a large set of routines and they are used by various
apps, and not just for video. Nobody would be able to give you a
definitive list of which apps use the Quicktime routines, let alone
which ones still use version 7 instead of version X. Any proerly
written new app will be using Quicktime X.

The problem for some people is the Quicktime *PLayer* 7 app because
they still use it for the editing functions which are not available in
the Quicktime *Player* X app. The Quicktime *Player* 7 app is not
64-bit, so one of of the many old apps that
may start having problems in macOS 10.14 ('Mojave') and won't work at
all in 10.15 ... and the same will be true for many, if not all, of the
old apps that use Quicktime 7 routines.

The reality is that the OS moves on. Old apps stop working and you need
to upgrade or replace those as well. Nobody is forcing you to upgrade,
at least not until your computer dies and you buy a new one.
