#28237 — Weird Inability to Receive Email

FromTaliesinSoft <taliesinsoft@me.com>
Date2015-03-19 16:13 -0500
SubjectWeird Inability to Receive Email
Message-ID<cn0sgiF3542U1@mid.individual.net>
I typically receive around eighty emails a day, the majority of them
junk. Yesterday, around 9:00 AM and throough the rest of the day I
didn't receive a single mail. That continued until about 9:00 AM today.
I couldn't determine the reason, and there was nothing that I knowingly
did to either stop or restart the mail. This occurred both on my
network connected computer and my iPhone which showed no other issues.

Any thoughts as to what happened will be appreciated. And, if there are
any questions I will be glad to respond.

How many different email accounts do you have? How many different
service providers?

I normally use just the single email account, taliesinsoft@me.com.

How can you look at system log files for this account? How do you know
if it's the ISP eating the email (happened to me with Crapcast) or it
couldn't connect to a mail server because of whatever reason or some
other problem. They can be quite numerous.

That's an iCloud email account.

Do messages show up when you look at your mail at http://icloud.com?

Have you looked at Connection Doctor on the Mac to se what it says about
this account?

The next day all was again well, and my emails were back to normal. I
guess what happened that prevented me from receiving email for a day
will remain a mystery!

I rarely send or receive email at my iCloud address, but today I
sent an email from my iPad and now iMac Mail, which should have
received a copy, won't sync with iCloud. Maybe there's something
wrong with the cloud. If the problem doesn't clear itself in a day
or two I'll report the bug.

It cleared up all by itself and a copy of the email sent from my
iPad appeared on my iMac. Looks like a server problem.

You never heard of spamsieve? Or is "junk" different than spam?

Proof there is a God. Thank her!

Did you send any outgoing emails? Particularly to yourself, or cc'd to
yourself?

This is why I have more than one email account on multiple ISPs.

my local mac, gmail, yahoo, my own domain. That's usually enough to
debug "I can't receive email" issues. With my local machine, I can look
at system logs. The others, it's anyone's guess.

Try sending email from another account and see what happens.
