#27586 — How to edit the audio track of a movie

FromJuan I. Cahis <jiclbchSINBASURA@attglobal.net>

SubjectHow to edit the audio track of a movie
Message-ID<1402451197444572190.219739jiclbchSINBASURA-attglobal.net@news-central.giganews.com>
Dear friends:

I have a problem. I did a video recording of a live concert, but the audio
track (stereo) was recorded at a very low level. How can I do to raise the
volume level of the audio track by +8 dB, without changing anything in the
video track? Do you know of a program that it can do that? Could you
recommend me one?

Thanks a lot again.

I have a program called Audacity that does this (among many other
things) with audio.

iMovie, if you have it (which most reasonably new Macs do):

That's what I usually use. I purchased it long ago.

Also, as suggested, Audacity.

I just tried it on an mp4 video file and it works a treat (much to my
surprise.)

Multiple "as suggested" references are cool from you but not for
others? Good to know.

I think I heard something about iMovie being a possible solution. Don't
recall where that was...

Has anyone thought of using iMovie? Or Audacity?

I don't think so. With Audacity, I can open the MP4 video file, extract the
Audio Track, increase its sound level, save it as a sound file, but I
cannot to reinsert it again in the original movie (video) file. At least I
couldn't do it.

iMovie will do that. I don't frequently do this kind of thing, but
have done it with Logic--certainly too expensive a solution for a
one-off task.

Quicktime Player 7--won't it merge audio and video?

I fear you're right. I just tried it all the way through, this time, and as
you rightly say, you can't export the file as video. Bummer.

Good point. You have to convert it to an MOV file first.

Quicktime 7 (mine is Pro) will raise the vol and you can save the
changes. Under Window/Properties/ audio. Maybe on your OS the old QT 7
would not work though?
