QuickTime 7 runs in Yosemite.

Yes!!!, but thanks to Apple's nice discriminatory policies, the "Pro"
version of it cannot be bought in America outside the USA.

You can get around this, I'm fairly sure. Whether it is worth it for
QT 7, not sure. It is not exactly sophisticated movie software, but I
have had my fun with it.

Btw, is there a difference between what you mean by America and what
you mean by USA?

QuickTime 7 Pro can be bought from the online Apple Store in most
countries, e.g. I can still buy it at the New Zealand online store and I
see it on the Australia, UK, Canada and Mexico stores.

For some reason it doesn't appear on the Brazil store (your country, if
I remember right?) It isn't clear why Brazil missed out, but the most
likely explanation is some country-specific regulation or licensing
issue which is preventing Apple from being able to sell the software. It
certainly isn't a case of Apple only thinking about its US customers.

I note that the Brazil store is also missing the QuickTime MPEG-2
component, and Mountain Lion, but does offer Lion (which is distributed
electronically, similarly to Mountain Lion and the QuickTime add-ons, so
there is no obvious pattern).

You might try ringing Apple Sales in Brazil and seeing if you can order
it by telephone, or at least find out why it isn't available. You should
be able to find the phone number under the "Get Help" link at the top of
the page for http://store.apple.com/br

Is Pro really needed for this simple task?

Probably not - I expect there are many alternatives, which I haven't
investigated, because I've had QuickTime Pro for so long I've never
needed anything else. If I didn't have QTPro I'd probably try iMovie
(but this may be a case where an old version is needed due to
changed/removed features in later versions).

My point was to correct Juan's impression that QuickTime Pro was only
available in the US - given evidence so far, it appears Brazil is one of
the few places where it is NOT available.

From elsewhere in the thread, it appears that one of the free options
(Audacity) is not sufficient because it can only save the modified audio
track as a separate file. There may be other free editing software which
can add the audio back to the video, e.g. MPEG StreamClip would be worth
investigating.

Understood. I should clarify my question: My copy of QuickTime Pro 7 is
registered, due to my purchasing it years ago, but I remember that
before purchasing it, I could use it in unregistered mode. I wonder if
he might be able to use it unregistered to do what he wants.

Scratch that. Juan confirmed this is the case.

All the relevant editing features are disabled unless you have entered a
QuickTime Pro licence key. QuickTime Player operates in a simpler
play-only mode. You can't add/replace tracks, nor can you access the
movie properties (which is where the audio adjustment is done).

So, after you get the audio file from Audacity, insert it into the
movie using Quicktime 7 Pro... (in case changing the volume doesn't
actually stick when done in Quicktime 7 Pro itself, after saving and
re-opening.)

Yes, the "Properties/Audio" button is grayed in the non Pro version.

Ah, okay. That's what I was wondering. Thanks for confirming it.

Finally, I did it with iMovie 9.0. This program is not the most intuitive
in the universe, but it did the job. The problem is that when saving the
modified movie file, it always reformat it, so some video degradation
occurs, which it is a pity. I don't understand why, if the only process one
want to do is to raise the audio level, it needs to reformat the video to
another (standard for iMovie) resolution too.

Interestingly QT10 does not do this (or not obviously?), 7 is way
better in so many ways.
