Message-ID<NLOdnQCjQLGM3lPJnZ2dnUU7-SGdnZ2d@giganews.com>
Apparently the Apple/Google deal on default search for Safari (OS X and
iOS) will end soon and Yahoo and MS are vying to be the new default
search engine.

No issue if one prefers Google or others, just change the default (or
since I use Chrome 99.99% of the time it's no issue period).

Siri already uses Bing (MS) so that's a 'tilting' indication. Maybe.

What's more confusing though is Yahoo's bid - don't they use Bing under
the hood in any case?

I use Chrome a great deal. So, Mr. Smartie, how do I make Google
*advanced* search my default search engine? Google basic is not useful
to me.

As for default in Safari, makes no difference to me. The first item on
my bookmarks bar in Mac OS and iOS is Google advanced search.

Done that. Perhaps my question should have been "How do I make Chrome
open with a blank page?" It opens with Google simple search, which I
don't want.

I use advance search within the basic search w/o wasting my time filling
all those idiot boxes on the advanced page.

It would be funny if Apple went with Duck Duck Go, just to piss the
others off (It's already one of the options)

It's one of the most privacy-respecting search engines available.

Why would they set ANY search engine as the default. If there's a
legal difficulty in annointing Google as the preferred default, leave
the configuration to the user from the get go.

I don't think I get the issue.

Because the worst of the users don't know how
to do that and the whole point of Apple stuff is
that it supposed to be usable by anyone.

There isn't.

Not viable with the worst of the users.

That's certainly true.

Business and money. From a business perspective, Apple's default
settings control a huge segment of the market, if they change their
default from Google to something else, it will make a noticeable dent on
the bottom line of both Google and the gaining search engine.

If one particular search engine is willing to pay more than another to
have their bottom line go up, well, that works for Apple.

Wrong, as always.

Irrelevant to who is their main competitor in
the smartphone and tablet OS market, fuckwit.

it's not wrong.

it's completely relevant.

different companies with different business models are not competitors.

google writes software for mac and ios and makes a lot of money from
those who use apple products. they *want* apple to sell lots of phones
and macs.

Intersting: I hadn't noticed such a straight-up prick around here
recently, begging for some drama.
