#23956 — Dropbox and Yosemite

FromMichelle Steiner <michelle@michelle.org>

Items in my Drobpox folder on my iMac no longer show the checkmark, and
the contextual menus no longer have any dropbox items.

However, everything else works; if I need to share something in my
dropbox folder, I'll have to go to the web site to copy the URL from
there.

Yeah, that's been reported here (compatibility notes):

<http://roaringapps.com/app/dropbox>

DropBox will need to update it for 10.10 eventually...

That is odd indeed. I am currently running OSX 10.9.4 and Dropbox
2.10.3 and all the DB contextual menu items are functioning as
expected. I show “Copy Public Link”, “View on Dropbox.com”, and “View
Previous Versions”.

I also use FileChute with DB as a way to get screen shots, etc. into a
cloud service for sharing, like this.
<https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1295663/FileChute/screenshot_832.jpg>

My one beef with obtaining a public link from a DB folder is you are
not given the option to have a shortened version. That is only
obtainable from the dropbox.com site and can be useful.

Yes, that's what got broken in Yosemite.

I guess Dropbox hasn't updated for Yosemite yet.
We might have to wait until September for that. They might also be
waiting to see exactly what Apple delivers with the file sharing
options to be restored to iCloud.
When Apple took that from us when it was there in iDisc & me.com that
pushed me to Dropbox.

I won't upgrade to Yosemite until this is fixed.

Or is it just Apple pulling the blanket over to their new service
announced at the WDC?

Everything else about Dropbox works; this means that in order to get
the URL for the item, you have to go to your dropbox web site.

I expect that there will be a fix to Dropbox for this.

I expect so too ... but DB's become a minor lynchpin in my new business
(sharing ops files amongst several users). There may be other options,
including Apple's new cloud storage, but transitions are always bothersome.

It's up to DropBox to fix it.

It's up to Allan to decide when system 10.10 is ready for him. A
computer without applications and services is kinda useless...

While iOS presents many walled garden features and OS X shouldn't,
nobody has a clue where Apple will take such. So yes.

This is normal for pre-release versions of OS X.
