| Subject | Replacement for Lineform? |
| Message-ID | <2014022201052424437-notmyemail@invalidemailcom> |
Hi. I use a vector drawing app called Lineform that still (thankfully) works under Mavericks. But its developer no longer supports the program. I still use Lineform because it allows me to draw with "artistic strokes." Those strokes take into account the pressure of my graphics tablet and I can therefore create art with lines of varying width. I find drawings with artistic strokes look more natural and artistic. Again, these are vector drawings, not bitmap. I've been waiting for another vector drawing program to come along with features similar to "artistic strokes," but so far I haven't found one. Other than Illustrator, which I think has something similar, but Illustrator is overkill and too expensive for my needs. However, I'm posting here in case there is such a program with a feature similar to artistic strokes, and I've just not heard of it. I was fishing around in the Mac App Store but there are many apps in the Graphics and Design category so I thought I'd post here. So, does anyone know if an app exists with a feature similar to artistic strokes? Thanks.

It's hard to beat Illustrator in terms of feature spread... I see that Intaglio (among others) is listed as an alternative to Lineforms on MacUpdate: <https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/21229/lineform> Have you given it a try? I use it occasionally. While it is very basic in comparison with Illustrator, it gets the job done for lots of things. I also sometimes use OmniGraffle for certain types of vector stuff, but it's more specialized towards flowcharts and so on. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. It doesn't support a graphics tablet and it allows for uniform stroke widths. And the newer version doesn't either; I've checked.

I suspect inkscape is too underpowered for your needs?
I only answered this post to ask: Are you Mr. Anti-Gravity? Always look
forward to that.

Not to mention clunky as hell. I find Inkskape rather distasteful for a Mac application. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. I often ignore posts from Google. It's X11 which I wouldn't really categorize as "Mac" (it's also
available for Linux and Windows).
I could use inkscape for several things except for the irksome lack of
scale settings. I have used it to map some business models, basic
system ideas and so on. Clumsy.
Visio is nice (Windows, though) for many things.

Inskscape is free, so no harm trying it. What you are looking for is apps that support graphics tablets. Calling them 'artistic strokes' is not going to do well on searching. -- One by one the bulbs burned out, like long lives come to their expected ends.

I can certainly recommend iDraw in general as being the closest cheap-ish thing to Inkscape that I've found (not that I really mind using Inkscape either, as I use various X11 desktops in my day job), but although I use a tablet myself I don't recall off-hand whether it allows for pressure-sensitive strokes. -- Xbox: GallusNumpty Steam: scottishwildcat

I emailed the makers of IDraw. I was told that they don't support tablets right now, but they will in the future.
