Why bother with a case sensitive file system to begin with?

Well, there's HEAD and head, for one.

They're different, which is an issue on case-preserving filesystems. A
small issue, to be sure, but still an issue.

Talk about nit picking... You will encounter many more issues (some far
more serious and hard to fix) running case-sensitive file systems.

HEAD and head have prevented me installing several times in the past.
Most well-maintained software has updated to account for OS X, but I
still run into it at times.

But why would you need to use both filenames in the same directory?
That's the only benefit you gain from having a case-sensitive file
system.

Indeed. And when you weigh that tiny benefit with the larger and more
numerous drawbacks, it's clear that case sensitive file systems probably
aren't worth the trouble on Mac OS X.

What were you expecting? DivX isnt open source; so you are stuck asking
the company for assistance.

Someone already suggested using something other than DivX; but I guess
that doesn't match your constructive criteria.

Barring the above, you might try Dr. DivX, the unofficial open source
branch, and fix it yourself if needed.

Best of luck.

Create a non case sensitive file systems on a diskimage with "Disk

as i said earlier, reformat to the standard mac os format, which is
case preserving, case insensitive.

then divx will work and you won't have problems with other apps either.

HEAD and head are UNIX commands. Different UNIX commands. It can be am
issue when compiling source code on a case-preserving system like OS X
when the code is expecting a case sensitive system to distinguish HEAD
from head.

You're referring to the Perl LWP module "HEAD" utility, I take it. That
"HEAD" and the BSD "head" utility are *not* in the same directory. So
the utterly simple fix for this minor problem is to specify the full
path to the utility, which is a best practice anyway. Problem easily
solved with a best practice. Again, you will encounter many more issues
(some far more serious and hard to fix) running case-sensitive file
systems.

reformat the drive to standard mac os extended journaled, which is
case-preserving.

otherwise, you will have problems.

there's nothing to fix. you're using an unsupported file system.

DivX still exists?

H.264 is better than divx, honest.
