#20747 — Pages 5.1 problem

Pages 5.1 appears to lack the ability to have linked text boxes. Anyone
know anything about this, such as why?

I haven't been following Pages since I don't do much of that sort of
thing these days. Could it simply be that Apple decided to rewrite /
refactor Pages in version 5.1 and hasn't yet gotten around to adding in
the complete feature set? Apple does this from time to time (see Final
Cut Pro as a recent example).

Well, lets hope so. When I imported a page layout file into Pages 5.1,
it bleated about "some features not supported - links removed", which
is a bit irritating.

So far I've seen no reason not move from the previous version.

That happened with Numbers recently as well. I suspect a rewrite.

As JR said, the rewrite has dropped that among many other features. I
use linked text boxes in Pages '09 each month for a club newsletter.
Pages 5.x is a no go zone for me until it has linked text boxes.

What worries me is that Apple didn't list that among the features they
were intending to add back over the next six months.

Page layout is implied by the name of the application, and was its
original primary function. How can it NOT have linked text boxes, which
is a pretty important feature when you want to layout an article
spanning variable sized columns and multiple pages?

No shit. If they want to be taken seriously, they'll have to add that
feature.
