#20128 — Terminating Skype - How?

SubjectTerminating Skype - How?
Message-ID<bhpragF8e75U1@mid.individual.net>
I have been a Skype user for quite a few years but have decided that I
no longer need it. My question then is how in the world I disconntinue
my account. I have been unsuccessful at finding out how to do this on
the Skype website and there doesn't seem to be any such thing as
telephone support.

Any help will be appreciated!

They removed this feature some time ago. When LifeHacker announced that
Microsoft wasn't allowing for total deletion, I depopulated my Skype
account, made the stuff point to bogus email and web addresses, and
changed all the personal information. That's the best I could do.

I suppose if you sue them in small claims court, Microsoft will just
wave the ToS in front of you, even though that's not what you signed.
If you can prove the ToS you signed allowed for deletion of accounts,
then you'd have a case. How would you collect damages? This is a
contract for specific performance rather than monetary issues. Even if
you win, how would you collect if they don't want to or claim that
feature was removed?

I think the other answer nailed it, but I have had good luck with their
online support. A support rep answered me within a day, with something
more than what I used to get which was "ask on the forum" or "it will
be fixed in the next release" (and never was).

Their answer was a generic answer which did not apply in my case, and when
I pointed that out, I had the correct answer a few hours later.

So IMHO, their support under Microsoft is a lot better than their support
under eBay, or when they were independent.

You may want reconsider totally deleting your account. I rarely use
mine because I have international long distance included in my cellphone
plan. Yesterday they offered a year of Skype Premium which includes
videoconferencing for free.

So IMHO, it's worth keeping the account, and signing up for the free year,
in the eventuality that you may need to do a videoconference.

I understand that this is a Mac group, and Apple has competing (and probably
better) products, but not everyone in the world is a Mac/iOS user and
occasionally we have to talk to them. :-)

Geoff.

My biggest peeve (then it my have to do with my ISP) is that sound cuts
out or video freezes and you have to disconnect and reconnect.
I also use a Service called ooVoo which is a Lot better than skype and
they even have support that you can put on your contact list That you
can actually video chat with. actually has better connection.

I get that with one person who uses a cellular modem for internet access.

It's the nature of cellular internet connections, there is a drop in signal
or another glitch and connection resets.

With landline internet users it "just works".

Skype works better if you dedicate a port to it. I.e. you open a port
in your router's firewall and forward it to your computer and then
set it in skype's settings.

Geoff.

Another peeve with Skype is that you can no longer find by email address
and invite. You use to be able to do so.

Cancel all emails via unsubscribe links and ignore it. Or input false
contact info. Either way I'm sure your simply non-usage will be as
effective as any other notice of dissatisfaction.

Personally I find Skype's technical support, features, design and
development all to be abysmal. Skype is the worst app I use all the
time. Why do I tolerate this - shit like them taking the better part of
a year to fix broken voicemail servers? Because in NZ they are the only
decent worldwide VoIP provider with all the platforms and features I
require. But you better believe the _second_ there's a viable
alternative, I'm dropping my payment and never using Skype again.

No. Do they offer NZ phone numbers?
