so few bother with usenet.

definitely not.

I don't. Usenet readership is nothing compared to social networks.

> I was so happy to find Thoth and jumped right

And I paid for Thoth long ago (2001). After I sent in some feedback,
Brian threw a fit and just issued me a refund with me even
asking/wanting one.

> Brian has been exceptional in providing support and fixes.

If he's not moody anymore, I don't see anything exceptional about his
approach to software development. Right now, it looks like he gave
Thoth one last shot at being successful, but MT-NW dying isn't enough
when the market isn't there for alternatives.

> I guess there aren't many usenet users anymore.

Not ones that will pay for client software, anyway. And it doesn't help
that ISPs no longer consider it a core service (hell, my current ISP
doesn't even offer an email account, never mind web or usenet servers).

I think it is related to the major ISP's eliminating the alt.binaries.*
groups.

The major ISPs eliminated the * groups, not just the alt.* or
alt.binaries.* groups.

Even when ISPs provided it, users were only 10%. Now that ISPs don't do
Usenet any more, there's you, me & a few others. :/

When I kept having to bug him to get updates, I asked why he couldn't
add me to his mailing list. Apparently the software he uses doesn't
support adding without invitation. Since he didn't differentiate between
marketing and updates, I didn't subscribe and had to bug him. I got
tired of it and asked for a refund rather than having to deal with him.
He seems to think he's offering "excellent customer service" but I think
he's just off his meds.

Again, he's making writing software and supporting it personal. And now
he's taking his ball and going home. Sooner or later, he'll have people
just ignoring him for doing this sort of thing once to often.

That's weird.

I'm on his list to receive the "Thoth Announcements" of new versions
and updates, and was always well informed (I think).

Sooner or later? Brian's asshat behavior got old for me long ago, and
I'm not even one of his customers. We can ignore the question of whether
he hijacked NewsWatcher source code to build Thoth. He's pulled this
kind of cry baby "software isn't paying for itself" shit before in the
past. I don't see the behavior changing. So I say fuck Thoth. Good
riddance.

Some like to have fun making money.

And hopefully you two are finished with this round of the 'I hate Brian' crap!

I never said you couldn't have fun making money. Apparently you didn't
comprehend what I said. Read it again, and pay closer attention this
time.

Are you Brian's mom or something? What do you care what people think
about him?

In reality I don't care.

What I do care about is the bitch-a-thon that usually starts and goes
on and on ad nauseum whenever Brian's name comes up.

You can blame Brian for that. If not for his assinine behavior over the
years, waffling back and forth, blaming users for his bad attitude, then
we wouldn't be having this conversation.

And yet many of us did not have that experience with him at all. I
always got good support and prompt responses to questions.
