Right, so Thunderbird is a crap application and Unison is pretty but rudimentary. So back to slrn and the good old days! So, for you out there that use this client, let me ask you some questions so I can get back on track. More questions will probably come.
I've started the score file, and I wanted to group scores, is this correct:
[*]
Score: 200
{::
References: @irc\.sandman\.net>$
References: <mr([^ ]*)@([^ ]*)individual.net>$
}
I.e. that's a scoring for people replying to my posts, and looking at the docs, the double colon means that only one of the items need to match. I was unable to make it work it seems, or maybe I'm doing something wrong there.
What (command line) editor do you use? Do you use one that is "post-aware". My editor of choice, pico, doesn't know what a usenet post is and can't colorize the text in any meaningful way. But others may.
How do you navigate the references of a post? Say I'm in a discussion and need to go back in time before the loaded article set, using references was a grrat way to do it in MT-NewsWatcher. Can it be done legantly in slrn?
That's it for now, I'll add more questions as they pop up :)

I really think that this thread belongs in news.software.readers and
not in here. In news.software.readers you'll find the (very helpfull)
slrn mafia hanging out...
slrn nested scoring syntax is a doddle for them. ;-)
But before you tweak your scoring you should find out how to set
wordwrap to a set 72 - 76 or so characters :-P
(cross-posted & followup set to news.software.readers)

Agreed. Also it may be worth pointing out there were a couple decent GUI X-Windows Usenet clients I briefly tried out back in OS X 10.3.x days using Fink to install them. Granted I didn't try them for long (I was only curious, and far preferred MacSOUP for a GUI client). I couldn't even recall their names at this point :-D But I do recall decent if very unattractive GUIs, and all the important newsreader features being present. All that said, I still prefer tin <http://www.tin.org/> (if I can't run MacSOUP), and enjoy seeing it's User-Agent header around the place :-) -- If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

In your case most likely OS X's Terminal.app. In most terminal apps, including OS X's, you can set look and feel to a wide degree - including but not limited to: window background colour, font, font size, and font colours (though a command line app can have it's own font colour settings) depending on whether the text is normal, italic, bold, etc. Take a look in OS X's Terminal.app's Preferences in the Settings tab to see what I mean. It just feels more... terminal-ish, heh. Especially with green text which reminds me of using the Apple II back in my early school years. Funny - normally black text on white is easiest for me to read (that was after all part of the revelation of the original Mac in 1984 - finally we got crisp black WYSIWYG text on white for the very first time on a screen - for me anyway), but I can't stand a terminal window setup with black text on white - it feels harder to read in that situation. Is it the smaller size of the text I prefer in a terminal window? The fixed width font? Both of the aforementioned in concert? Nostalgia overriding good sense? Or is there really something about coloured text on black that helps me read and focus when using a terminal app? *shrug* I'm pretty sure my brain works in some weird ways... :-) -- If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

When using a GUI usenet client, I had it set to black-on-white, but as soon as I moved to slrn, it was white on black... Funny that! -- Sandman[.net]

Never seen the filetype=mail before. That looks promising. > and set the textwidth in your ~.vimrc Well, textwidth globally for vim is a bad idea if you use it for coding or editing, really. I'd rather no screw up main.cf, for example. -- I CAN BE ROBBED BUT NEVER DENIED, I TOLD MYSELF. WHY WORRY? 'I too cannot be cheated,' snapped Fate. SO I HAVE HEARD.

Vim.

You can rebuild the entire thread using ESC 1, ESP P

I'll need to revisit that.
