#29420 — Can I revert to Chrome's previous bookmarks system?

SubjectCan I revert to Chrome's previous bookmarks system?
Message-ID<2015042310440028158-tomevans9890@yahoo.ca>
Is there a way to revert to Chrome's previous bookmarks system?

My bookmarks were suddenly upgraded without my knowlegde recently to
the new version of Chrome (Version 42.0.2311.90 (64-bit).

The new bookmarks system is is extremely convoluted and hard to figrue
out. It's got so many bugs I don't know where to begin to describe it.
I don't know what the idiots at Google thought they were doing if they
thought this was an improvement. They're obviously not qualified
graphic designers and writers to have created this confusing mess.

It's a disaster, so I want to revert.

I have no issues with it. My principal 'marks are in the 'bar, the rest
in the same folder structure I've had since the Windows/Netscape days.

If you mean the new editing page for 'marks, I agree it's really over
done. But I don't edit there, I drag them around on the main chrome
screen and right-click-edit if I want to edit the bookmark parameters
(usually shortening the name of the 'mark).

I agree with the OP. I have at least 150 bookmarks, so my bookmarks bar
is almost entirely folders, and some bookmarks are nested as deep as 3
levels down. Those deep folders are also where I tend to add most of my
new bookmarks (I use them for saving StackOverflow questions that I
often refer to as duplicates, and I have them grouped into categories).

Navigating to those subfolders in the new popup is significantly harder
than it used to be with the simple drop-down menu. It took me several
tries before I even figured out how to do it -- I kept trying to use the
part that's used to create new folders, not seeing how to select older
folders.

Mine too is 3 levels deep and on the order of 500 'marks. I can edit
anything by dragging or right clicking as I always have w/o using
bookmarks manager. I can right click on any of those folders to add a
sub folder. I can right click on any mark or folder to rename or modify
links (edit). And of course right click to delete.

There's no issue! Just don't use Bookmark Manager. Manage your
bookmarks in situ. Ignore the popup.

None of those right-click options are available for me.

There is an issue. There's no alternative on my computer to using the
bookmarks manager. For some reason, your computer is customized for
use with Chrome bookmarks.

Why? Does your mouse not have a right button? Trackpad isn't configured
for two-finger tap (=right click)?

If "customized" means using the Apple Trackpad right click (two finger
tap) then I guess it's as "customized" as a few million other people...

My right-click mouse options are: Back, Reload, Save, Print, Translate
to English, View Page Source, View Page Info and Inspect Element – none
of which are helpful.

How do you do that? There's no alternative to using the Bookmarks
Manager, from what I can see.

And when you click and drag folders in the Bookmarks Manager, how can
you prevent them from going into another folder instead of rearranging
the order?

I installed the most current version of Chrome on my Windows laptop at
work. I *hate* the new bookmark manager. I found an extension in the
WebStore for "old Chrome Bookmark Manager" or something like that. It
gives part of the old behavior.

Not perfect, but it's something.

Fuck Google. Always trying to screw you, and I mean ALWAYS. Never trust them with your data, and you're better off installing plugin or managing any of your data outside Google.

Now bookmarks is the most recent thing that Google screwed, and I suggest you export your bookmarks before they start disappearing or being rearrange without your consent, that always what happens with google. You've been warned.

Perhaps ironically, Google also screws up Usenet postings; yet that
hasn't stopped you from using Google Groups. : )

Really? Do you have an actual example, or are you just spreading FUD?

When has that ever happened?

For values of always that equal never?
