Two-finger drag on my system, with a trackpad.

The ability to move an image around with the mouse. Click and drag is
how this was always done by using the hand drag tool. That tool was
removed and we can't click and drag an image anymore. Now we have to
click and drag the scroll bars to move the image.

But "So they broke it for mouse users?" was in response to my comment
about the trackpad; it didn't logically follow my comment at all.

But I believe that with the Magic Mouse, you can still move an image
around using the touch surface as if it were a trackpad. The Magic
Mouse is the default mouse that's shipped with iMac these days. With
all other Macs, you have to buy a mouse separately if you want to use a
mouse with it.

I stopped using a traditional mouse years ago. The Apple mouse which
came with this iMac is sitting on a shelf on the other side of the
room. My everyday input & navigation device is the now discontinued MS
Trackball Optic. I wouldn't think of using anything else, I have a
spare on hand in case of some tragic happenstance.

For work in Photoshop I use a combination of the Trackball and a Wacom
Intuos 4 Med. now discontinued, and replaced by the Intuos Pro.

Form and function climaxed at the Mighty Mouse. Too bad they didn't
make it more easy to dismantle as it does need cleaning from time to
time.

Agree. the tactile response from moving the ball is not see in the magic
mouse. Sometimes an app does not respond to movemenbt of finger and you
can't tell if the mouse registered it and app not responding, or if the
mouse didn't register it.

For tghe Mighty Mouse, a removable top cover that could be washed with
dishwashiung soap would have been best. No need to dismantle the tiny
rollers etc, just dunk that plastic in soapy water to wash it off and
then use hair drier to dry it.

That's not saying much. Apple's mouse offerings have always been rather

I've never had problems with any of Apple's mice as such, not even the
original iMac's round "puck" mouse ... although the stupid "squeeze me"
buttons on the later mice were always quickly turned off. I haven't
used the Magic Mouse enough to know yet, but at least some of the touch
functions of that will also be quickly turned off - needing to keep
your fingers raised slightly off the mouse is a good recipe for RSI
problems.

I liked the puck mouse too, but never went back to the sub-par line of
Apple mice after I got my first optical mouse - a MS Intellimouse in
about 2001 IIRC. After that I got a Razor DeathAdder, then when Razor
made their driver unbelievably stupid (requires 'cloud' access or most
features are no longer accessible) I got a Logitech G500s last year when
my DeathAdder's scrollwheel broke.

The G500s isn't quite as nice feeling or shaped as my old DeathAdder or
it's newer stupider version, but the G500s requires no customer driver
and 'just works' really well (though I do use USB Overdrive to setup the
buttons for different apps). It is also a little more sturdy feeling
than the DeathAdder.

FYI - my MS Intellimouse contiues to function perfectly after 12 years,
though it's now relegated to backup status. It really is built like a
tank - I like to say it's the original Game Boy of mice! :-) It's only
downside is it's feet are a lot less slick than modern mice, but other
than that, it is as good as the day I bought it.

The pea ball on the top of the Mighty Mouse might look stupid but it
allows me to scroll a doc in both directions while moving the mouse
around. Most handy for a window that's in the background while I work
on a foreground window - such as typing into it while being able to
scroll the other one without this focus follows mouse rubbish which
would prevent me from doing that.

It's less efficient (till the scroll ball gets clogged with dust,
anyway), but my Logitech g500s' scrollwheel pivots from side to side to
scroll horizontally, and never gets stuffed up by dust and debris.

Looks like it has lots of unwanted buttons etc on it.
