"... has a reputation for being problematic ..." is *NOT* Science.
Twenty years of having a box sitting on my desk running roughly 24/7
and running SETI-at-HOME and her cousins for the last decade or so
*IS* Science. It is an observation. A data point. A fact.
You can't argue facts with " ... has a reputation for being
problematic ...". That's *politics*, friend.
I have worked in an environment where Win-boxes were totally
overloaded with stuff running on them, so much that they ground to a
halt on many occasions and they *rarely* crashed.
That is Science. Observation. Not rumour or reputation.
Windows is nowhere near so flaky as people assume it to be.
That is *MYTH*.
To be fair, I should mention that since 2007, over a couple of
upgrades of the OS, I have also never had a crash of my wife's
Macbook. Not once. So OSX is not flaky, either.
That, too, runs just about constantly and runs BOINC.

Revisionist history. Actually, it was the other way around. Does it matter? The fact is that when MS gives us something, Apple
gives us a perverted, twisted, renamed version of it and vice versa.
They *could* cooperate to make our lives easier.
Not likely, but theoretically possible.

I prefer the latter. You're a wally, a wassoch, an argumentative
child and a silly little creature of little value to the world. I will
have done with you.
I would welcome you to my killfile but I am told that announcing such
is just self-serving posturing so I'll will simply do it.

And it's less usable as a result. there is no inherent advantage for putting something on one side or the other. the problem is when switching between systems that do it differently.

According to usability experts, a right-handed user can access, in order of increasing difficulty: The bottom-right corner The top-left corner The top-right corner The bottom-left corner Left-handed people make up around 10% of the population, I believe. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. Good point. But true, anyway. They could have got together and
standardised, but that would be too much like common sense.

True, and a fact that bugs the fuck out of me. I detest those
disappearing scroll bars Apple have foisted on us. My coordination is
far too poor to pick them up reliably even with a good mousey.
Yet another idiotic change for the sake of it that has degraded the
friendliness of what was a useful function.
MS is *not* above doing such things, either. "Ribbon" is one example
I am particularly fond of.

Interesting. Care to justify that, my (very limited) experience of it
was that I could no longer find anything. However I'm open to
persuasion but not with a 2 by 4.

Initially, I too couldn't find anything, but after a few weeks I realised that it was much easier to use than the previously illogical scattering of menu options all over the place.
