#28259 — Apple TV remote & iTunes

I just got an Apple TV and as I use the remote it effects iTunes even
when iTunes is not open, if I click the select button it launches
iTunes and begins to play the first track in the last playlist
selected. Is there a preference I can select that will stop this
behavior?

I'm using Yosemite and can't find anything in the Security & Privacy
preferences about disabling a remote. The preference has four tabs,
General, FileVault, Firewall, and Privacy none of these has any option
relating to a remote.

After typing this I noticed the Advance button, which is not active as
I had locked this preference so no changes could be made, finally here
I found the remote option.

If you have a Mac with an IR receiver, it defaults to recognising any
Apple IR remote. This can be a problem if there are two Macs or other
Apple devices with IR receivers in the same room. There are two ways to
deal with this:

(a) If you also have a remote for the computer but only want to control
one device with each remote, you can pair the computer and ATV with a
specific remote.

(b) If you don't want the Mac to respond to any remote, you can disable
the IR receiver.

On the Mac, both of these are controlled in System Preferences >
Security (10.6 or earlier) or Security & Privacy (10.7 and later).

Click the padlock in the bottom left and enter your password to unlock.

In 10.6 and earlier, the checkbox to disable the IR receiver and the
Pair button are on the General tab. In 10.7 and later, you need to click
the Advanced button to access these settings. The process for pairing is
explained when you click the Pair button.

If you want to pair a particular remote with the Apple TV (so it doesn't
respond to other remotes) or cancel that setting, it is controlled in
the ATV menus via Settings > General > Remotes > Pair/Unpair Apple
Remote.

If I remember right, the iPod universal dock also supports an Apple
Remote and there is a pairing mechanism in the iPod user interface.

Thank you! I've had my VHS remote positioned to block the Mac Mini IR
receiver up til now.
