Apple and Samsung is a prime example.

never heard that term before, but it is fitting.

Like I said, its more complicated than the devil stated.

Not with apple or google.

they're separate divisions.

samsung's chip division makes chips for apple, yet another division
makes phones that compete with apple.

sony's chip division makes sensors for nikon and others and sony's
camera division uses sony chips in their own cameras. contrary to
common belief, they're not the exact same sensors. nikon's version of
the sensor is nikon's design, while sony's sony's design. it's similar,
but not identical.

In military integration contracts this has been going on for decades.

In several bids for "integrator" we're proposing (and getting pricing)
for various bits the competitor makes and v-v. In the end you may lose
the integration, but at least sell sub systems and in some cases get a
sub contract for some of the integration.

Or v-v. When you have three or four competitors vying for "top"
position and all 4 also providing parts it makes for fun and games in
the end. The term "Chinese firewall" comes up a lot...

But Google is *not* Apple's main competitor. In fact, there are very few
areas in which Apple and Google compete. Let's see.. free email services
(free from both) and free contact/calendar/etc syncing (free from both).

Where do they compete?

Google is an advertising company. Apple is not an advertising company.

No monetary competition at all.

actually they don't.

google gives away android (and licenses it to some manufacturers).
apple doesn't give away ios

google makes the majority of its revenue from advertising.
apple makes the majority of its revenue from iphone sales.

google does sell nexus phones, but they're not big sellers and heavily
subsidized and sold at or below cost. google makes money from
advertising revenue from those who buy the nexus phones.

apple's competitor in the mobile space is samsung.

Yep. The idea that Google is Apple's "main competitor" is laughable.

Android is one of Google's ways to increase its advertising revenues.
Therefore, it is in competition with iOS.

Android isnt just about increasing advertising revenues, its
just another area that google has choose to get involved in.

So is Glass.

There is no therefore involved.
