I got the iWorks apps when I DL'd Mavericks on my new iMac.

Is it legal to copy (and use) them on my older Macs (also running M'icks)?

I believe it is. Certainly, when I installed Mavericks on my early 2011
MBP, I was able to download the new iLife and iWork apps. Haven't tried
on my iMac because for compatibility reasons, I need to stay on ML for a
while (my version of EndNote and Acrobat don't run on Mavericks). Later,
I may be able to replace EndNote with Papers, since it is able to format
citations, but I haven't played with it yet to find out how it is done.

anything you buy on the app store is valid for all macs you own.

Yes.

I did note that on my machine running ML, the App Store
wanted me to pay for iWork (even though I had the older ones already
installed).

As soon as I updated to Mavericks, the App store recognized my existing copies
and offered me the new ones for free.

I suppose I could have tried copying them from one of my Mavericks machines
over to one of my ML machines, but I didn't.

I just ended up updating all my machines to Mavericks and d/ling the newer
iWork apps via the app store.

It's been a very smooth upgrade to Mavericks - at this point, no issues
for me at all other than a quick hiccup when Crashplan required me to
re-install
Java. Re-installed, restart CP and everything else is working without any
hitches at all.

I'm not thrilled with the new iWork apps. The "simplified" interface
loses a lot
in my opinion. And they've modified the functionality of some of the formulas
in Numbers (to behave more like Excel, actually).

But I went ahead and am converting things over as I use them.
Eventually I'll have to,
so might as well embrace them now. Even with the worsened interfaces, I
still like
them better than the MS products (which I use when I need to, too).

I copied from the apps folder to the Public folder on my SO's MBA. (Was
quite large for all 3 - about 1.4 GB IIRC). I have a capped ISP plan,
so I avoid DL's when I can copy.

Except Numbers still does not have one of the most useful features of
Exell ("Goal Seek") where you enter a desired end value and the
designate a cell to change. Excel attempts various solutions including
iterative convergence. This is useful in many cases. (Pricing, profit
analysis, ROI scenarios, many engineering uses and so on).

I use MS Office most of the time for the simple reason that it is the
lingau franca of my colleagues. Pages is better in many respects, most
esp. placing a figure in a document without fuss.
