Hi,

... I know, this is an often asked question, so I will ask it again 
because there seems to be no useful answer:

Is there any useful scanner software for the Mac (Lion)?

I found and tried this so far:

a) Image Caputure: Easy to use because of its simplicity, nice scans 
but unusable due to the user interface (most of all missing 
magnification of the preview), especially useless for scanning 
negatives. :-(

b) VueScan: Yes, I not only tried but also registered it. It has some 
very good features and some very bad traits. After so many years of 
development, I don't see how that is going to change. So, amongst all 
it's good features, it still leaves much to be wished for. And I can't 
wait another 10 years to finally start scanning...

c) SilverFast: Hmm, this may be a good software but there's no working 
Lion version with my scanner (CanoScan 5600F). So it's impossible to 
try. In fact, there currently seems to be very limited SilverFast 
editions for the Mac, which is sad. I wonder, why there has to be a 
version tied to every single piece of individual scanner hardware on 
earth anyway.

d) Canon MPNavigator: Once tried, second try it crashed irrevocably. 
It's complete crap, like most vendor specific software. I can't even 
launch it anymore. I tried to remove and reinstall (incl. its scanner 
drivers), but to no avail. It just keeps crashing for some unkown 
reason. So, a definitive no-go here.

If anyone has an idea of what scanner software is best (also for 
scanning negative films) AND works with my CanoScan 5600F then please, 
please let me know. Thanks very much in advance.
