Why let facts get in the way of lies, eh, Donald?

The Google Pixel Pro Fold you were espousing above has a Class B battery
efficiency whereas the iphone Duo is Class A (like the galaxy Z fold).

By your definition the Pixel is a "crap" phone.

Do you always defend Apple to the death, no matter what, using the first
inane excuse that happens to pop into your head?

I tell the truth about everything, so you "assume" wrong that I extol the
virtues of folding phones, let along a Google or Samsung folding phone.

FACT:
My phone on my free (~$289 MSRP) 2021 Galaxy A32-5G has a 5AH battery.

Why do I mention that fact:
My el cheapo phone has a better battery than (almost) any iPhone ever sold.
(As I recall, one iPhone, in the history of all Apple's iPhones, has >5AH)

By better, I mean higher capacity.
Which means that it will last longer than a lower-capacity battery would.

Which is the point why Apple puts the crappiest batteries that they can get
away with into the iPhone (using the cheapest materials they can source).

When your iPhone with a crappy battery is long below 80% capacity, my el
cheapo Samsung is still going strong, oh, 5 years after it was born.

Since all iPhones come with crappy batteries, Apple *knows* that the
battery capacity must be kept small in order to induce turnover.

I only call out lies regardless of the topic. Given you're on an iOS ng
that's the topic.

That's a brain dead definition.

False. If you look at the EU battery lifetimes for all 5AH batteries you
see 185 hrs difference between the best and worst. Capacity is a very poor
metric to use.

As you'll see in the analysis you continually ignore, Samsung on average
has amongst the worst battery endurance in every class.

Then why support them for up to eight years if turnover is so high, by your
account?

Why do Apple religious zealots defend Apple to the death no matter what,
using the first absurd excuse that pops into their head, like that, Chris.

It's one of the most important metrics for overall battery life, Chris.

In case you're not aware, overall battery life is rated in charge cycles
until the battery capacity drops below 80% where the original capacity is
one of the most important metrics.

For you to claim it's a "brain dead" specification, is, in a word,
"absurd".

Again, you Apple religious zealots use the first idiotic excuse you can
think of to defend Apple to the death, Chris, as that's DAILY LIFE.

We're never talking about DAILY LIFE for God's sake.
We're talking about overall life (i.e., charge cycles to below 80%) Chris.

I invested my energy disproving your claim Chris, on 20260424 in the
m.p.m.i newsgroup, so I will simply repeat the research I ran then.

 Newsgroups: misc.phone.mobile.iphone,comp.sys.mac.advocacy
Subject: Re: AppleCare+ basically more than doubles the cost of a typical iPhone.

Under Regulation (EU) 2023/1670, as I understand it, OEMs must either
 a. Make the battery easily replaceable by the owner, or,
 b. It must maintain 80% after 1,000 full charge cycles.
 <https://hi-tech.ua/en/apple-iphone-17-pro-max-will-retain-its-familiar-design-how-engineers-managed-to-circumvent-eu-laws/>

You are correct that Samsung "bragged" about much higher cycles.
But under the EU testing scheme, Samsung has claimed 1200 cycles.

And, the Samsung S26 Ultra is more efficient than the iPhone 17 Pro Max
which belies Apple's claim that they use crappy batteries more efficiently.

<https://www.androidheadlines.com/2026/02/samsung-galaxy-s26-battery-life-endurance-eu-label-leaks.html>
Samsung isn't just winning because the battery is bigger
(it's only about 1% larger); they are winning because the
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (built on the newest 2nm process)
is easily out-pacing the A19 Pro in "perf-per-watt" for
sustained tasks. Samsung's "Privacy Display" and LTPO 4.0
tech also draw less power at high brightness than Apple's panels.

Mathematically, if you charge your phone once a day, the Samsung battery is
rated to stay "healthy" (above 80%) for roughly 3.3 years, whereas the
iPhone is rated for 2.7 years.
 a. Apple 1,000 cycles / 365.25 days in a year = 3.29 years
 b. Samsung 1,200 cycles / 365.25 days in a year = 3.29 years

That extra 200 cycles is a massive 6.5 month buffer for long-term owners.

>> Since all iPhones come with crappy batteries, Apple *knows* that the

>

FACT:
OEMs were required to state how long they promise support UK/EU, Chris:
 1. Google promised, in writing, 7 years
 2. Samsung promised, in writing (for the S series), 7 years
 3. Apple? What did they promise Chris?
    HINT: a measly 5 years

Why do you think Apple's promised support is so crappy, Chris?
HINT: We covered the average support lifetime for all iPhones Chris.

Apple owners apparently love to pay more than once for any given iPhone.

It would be interesting how that dynamic works on the $3000 folding iPhone.

Capacity is one concern. It isn't the whole picture.

What a user actually cares about is how long the battery lasts, in two
senses: how many hours it runs on a charge today, and how many years
before it has to be replaced. Capacity feeds both, but so do the
following:

* Efficiency of the device: the chip, display, radios, and software
determine how fast that capacity gets drained. Two phones with the same
capacity can differ heavily.

* Degradation behavior: a larger cell that runs hot or is charged
aggressively can wear out sooner than a smaller, gentler one.

Capacity is not irrelevant. Capacity by itself is a poor stand-in for
battery life, and treating it as the only measure is ignorant.

Since there are people reading this who are NOT religious zealots, when you
make an absurd excuse for Apple's crappy capacity by saying one of the most
important specifications for a battery is, in your words "brain dead", that
is an indication that you'll defend Apple to the death, no matter what,
using the first absurd inanely idiotic excuse that pops into your head.

Snit does it (aka Brock McNuggets). Alan Baker does it. nospam did it.
Lewis did it. Jolly Roger does it. JF Mezei did it. Your Name does it.

Even Alan Browne did it, although at least he often tried to find an Apple
white paper or marketing blurb that seemed to back up his excuses.

To a lesser extent, Haemactylus, -hh, Tom Elam and Tyrone do it, but
they're actually sensible some times, so they're on the nutcase fringe.

When you stop claiming the most important specification for a battery is
"brain dead" just because Apple's iPhone batteries suck on that spec, then
we can remove you from that list of known Apple religious zealot nutcases.

Here is your first chance, Chris, to say something sensible on this ng.

Q: What are the most important top 3 specifications for any battery?
 A: ?

>> Capacity is not irrelevant. Capacity by itself is a poor stand-in for
>> battery life, and treating it as the only measure is ignorant.

Again, you Apple religious zealot nutcases so very much hate that Apple has
chosen to put the crappiest batteries they can get away with into the
iPhone, to the point that you claim the most important specification for
overall battery life is "irrelevant" simply lends credence to my claim.

You zealots come up with the first absurd excuse that pops into your head.

HINT: Battery capacity is NOT "irrelevant" simply because Apple's sucks.

For the Windows newsgroup, I'm testing all the free no-registration LLMs,
where I am scheduled to test easemate today, so this is the first query:
 <https://www.easemate.ai/webapp/chat?from=ai-chat>

Pops this query into that LLM and tell us what you get as the output?

"When mobile device battery overall lifetime (in years) matters most,
what are the most important specifications for the battery, in order
of most important to least important, at purchase time of the device?"

Here's the response (verbatim):
 <https://i.postimg.cc/8P3vhfCc/battery-lifetime.jpg>

When considering the overall lifetime of a mobile device battery, several
specifications play a crucial role. Heres a list of the most important
specifications, ranked from most important to least important, at the time
of purchase:

1. Battery Capacity (mAh): Measured in milliampere-hours (mAh), this
indicates how much charge the battery can hold. A higher capacity generally
means longer usage time between charges.

2. Battery Chemistry: The type of battery chemistry (e.g., Lithium-ion,
Lithium-polymer) affects longevity, performance, and safety. Lithium-ion is
the most common due to its balance of capacity, weight, and lifespan.

3. Cycle Life: This refers to the number of complete charge and discharge
cycles a battery can undergo before its capacity significantly diminishes.
A higher cycle life means the battery will last longer overall.

4. Self-Discharge Rate: This is the rate at which a battery loses its
charge when not in use. A lower self-discharge rate is preferable for
maintaining battery life over time.

5. Charging Speed: Fast charging capabilities can be convenient but may
impact battery lifespan if not managed properly. Understanding the charging
technology (e.g., fast charging, adaptive charging) is important.

6. Operating Temperature Range: Batteries have optimal temperature ranges
for performance and longevity. Specifications that indicate how well the
battery performs in extreme temperatures can be crucial for durability.

7. Battery Management System (BMS): A good BMS helps monitor and manage
battery health, charging cycles, and temperature, contributing to the
overall lifespan of the battery.

8. Warranty and Manufacturer Reputation: A longer warranty and a reputable
manufacturer can indicate confidence in the battery's longevity and
performance.

9. Physical Size and Design: While not directly affecting longevity, the
design can influence heat dissipation and overall device efficiency,
impacting battery life indirectly.

10. Environmental Impact and Recycling: Consideration of how the battery is
made and its recyclability can be important for sustainability, though it
may not directly affect the battery's performance.

By focusing on these specifications, you can make a more informed decision
about a mobile device's battery longevity at the time of purchase.

Generally. It depends a lot on the hardware *and* software it runs.
Hence, why I stated "How long it keeps my device up & running during the
day" and not "A large capacity".

Hi John Bokma,

THANK YOU!

For being sensible.

You do NOT seem to be an Apple religious zealot, because what you said is
logical, and I never disagree with any logically sensible viewpoints.

Nobody, not me for sure, would disagree with your logically sensible
statement that there is much more to battery life than just capacity.

Among my degrees is an EE graduate degree, so of course I've studied
batteries extensively, where there are many specifications for them.

As you noted, capacity is just the starting point specification.
That's why the EU benchmarks require more than just initial capacity.

But my point to Chris, who said it was a "brain dead" specification, is
that it's still the most important starting point for overall life.

And Apple has always put crappy batteries in the iPhone, starting with
absurdly laughable initial capacities, but, let's be fair to Apple that
after they were so embarrassed by their poor ratings in the initial EU
benchmarks, Apple did raise the initial capacity of the iPhone batteries.

For a moment, I thought you weren't an Apple religious zealot nutcase.
But this shows that you resorted to bullshit to defend Apple's decisions.

Seriously. Don't waste our time with idiotically absurd inanely childish
defenses of Apple's decision to put crappy batteries in the iPhone.

Show me a screenshot of what you exactly asked and what it exactly said.
Make sure you asked about mobile devices. Not flashlight batteries.

Because nobody with any knowledge of batteries would claim that the initial
capacity isn't one of the most important specifications for overall life in
a mobile device.

Nobody.

Specifically, we're not talking about car batteries. We're not talking
about batteries used in toys. We're talking about mobile device batteries.

What Apple religious zealot nutcases do to defend every Apple decision is
they come up with the first absurdly inane excuse they can think of.

Why not ask the LLM why Apple puts crappy batteries in the iPhone, John?

I copy pasted *exactly* what you used:

"When mobile device battery overall lifetime (in years) matters most,
what are the most important specifications FOR THE BATTERY, in order of
most important to least important, at purchase time of the device?"

Was the prompt.

Part of the reply:

"

raw capacity affects how long a charge lasts per day, but says nothing
about how many years of daily charging the cell can sustain before

I don't need technical data because I have my own experience: the nearly
five-year-old iPhone I own lasts me all day, not one Android I've ever
owned has been able to do the same. Similarly, my MacBook Air can easily
last a day or two for my kind of work, not one PC I've ever owned has
been able to do the same, and neither has any Android device or Linux
installation. I know that they are now making PCs with battery life that
competes with what Macs offer, but if you are going to buy devices with
a long-lasting battery, why the heck would you want it to run Windows?
