I have a 2:40 reservation to have my iPad examined. Might just be a
dirty charging port, but this morning it will not charge.

Results later.

How petty to call this potentially disruptive event in another's life petty.

Oh, the hand-wringing!

And electronic device is having a problem.

This is not what ordinary people would call a "potentially disruptive
event", Liarboyl.

Well, given that you are no longer able to pursue your sports car
"racing" I suppose the events that caused that would qualify as
"traumatic". My iPad issue is pretty minor compared to the pain you must
feel.

But I feel your pain too. I am missing seeing you fall short of your
claims to being ranked alongside the likes of Doug Floer and Alan McColl
of your era.

Yep, seeing you run up against Brett Payne's new FF lap record of
1:10.13 this year would have been very entertaining. But as you will
point out there were quite a few (11!) new class track records set this
year. The track has changed.

I do find it very amusing to see you trash someone who is very happy
with Apple products and services. It is some consolation to see you
continue to prove what a total asshole you really are. Thanks for that
at least.

Maybe if you hadn't been an asshole about it for so very, very long,
you'd get different replies.

Love the Apple Store folks. It was just a dirty port. But, the tech also
informed me that the battery is a 82%, and to expect a message to bring
it back in a few months for a new battery. Since Apple does not actually
replace batteries that actually means a replacement iPad. All covered
under AppleCare+ For $20 a month for my iPhone 14 Pro, iPad 9th gen and
the MacBook Air.

An old guy across from me at the store had a 10 year old iPad the same
charging issue. He left with a working iPad too, no charge for fixing
it. The wife's 7 year old iPad 7 is now done with full update service.
Not seeing any need to buy another any time soon. I did not have a
single Android tablet that lasted more than 3 years. Hers with not be
under AppleCare+ in about a year, but so what?

Yep, no need to go back in a week or so, pickup a replacement, restore,
and tweak settings. Replacement is much easier than Android, but still
takes some time. That will happen fairly soon though when the battery
(in truth, the whole iPad) will be replaced under AppleCare+. That will
likely not be the last such incident until it runs out of AppleCare+
coverage. Since it was sold by Apple until May 2024 AppleCare+ should
last until April 2031. Am I right about that? Almost 5 more years?

AppleCare+ is some funny shit. It's like "I'm utterly helpless to care
for my shit so I pay for insurance". It's a typical corporate tax
scheme, in reality, take your money up front for a potential
replacement, get a write off when they make use of that, it's just an
extra sale to make, basically, it could be worth it to a customer but
they would need to think very critically about what benefit will
actually be delivered.

The warranty I got for the Zephyrus g14 before this machine resulted in
me getting a battery replacement, a keyboard replacement and a
motherboard replacement. Separately, just the motherboard costs way more
than the additional warranty does. A warranty is protection against
potentially expensive repairs. Most people don't mind paying a little
more for peace of mind and the knowledge that they can get their machine
repaired as often as needed, same with a battery replacement. If you
think that's not worth $20 a month, I'm not sure what to tell you.

I'm not saying that no one benefits from AppleCare - I'm saying one
benefits more from simply taking care of their devices, and betting they
won't need major repair. Paying for AppleCare essentially says that one
expects to break their own computer.

Well, it is good insurance if you do drop and break it... but you have
to do it often to be worth it. I have found even without it Apple
support is GENERALLY very good, though going downhill these last few
years. When I do call I quickly go up the ladder -- if I cannot figure
it out the first level support will not.

I didn't expect my gaming laptop to die as a result of a routine battery
replacement, but I would have appreciated still having a warranty
because it did. Peace of mind is a good thing, and the price it charges
is fair.

There is always the chance of a catastrophic hardware failure, yeah, but
it seems wiser to bet on it lasting than not, unless the components are
so lousy that it's almost inevitable they'd need repair. But if that
were the case, would I be interested in this manufacturer's products in
the first place?

The greatest hardware imaginable might not survive having a cup of
coffee spilled on it. That's one of the many things AppleCare and most
extended warranties protect against.

As for the hardware in the gaming laptop I had, it would have been good
for another few years. I notice the RTX 3060 mobile it had still plays
most of today's games very well, especially if you're not going beyond
the 1080p resolution.

Admittedly, it gives me confidence to know that if something goes wrong
with this unit between now and the end of August 2028, they might just
go ahead and replace it. I have no regrets whatsoever about getting this
machine, especially since it didn't cost me that much.

Just another dose of Fakerboy's abusive rhetoric.
