I hope someone answers your question - I got the answer to mine. BTW Version 1.78 of the Hardware Maintenance Diskette includes a creator for a self-booting USB thumb drive. The software is available to Thinkpad users for download from http://download.lenovo with no restrictions whatever. Maybe we don't need to be contractually obligated to IBM to use Lenovo software :-)
