When I went to the new iBooks application in Mavericks, I got a message
that I had 5 book to download. When I tried to do the downloads, they
all failed. I have opened the books and they appear okay. Anyone having
this problem? Are the books really downloaded correctly?
Thanks for any response,
Bo

Why on Earth was this crossposted to an Apple II (not relevant)
usergroups (doubly irrelevant) group? :-D

Anyway, have you tried simply restarting your Mac? If that doesn't work
try deleting the iBooks cache from your home folder while iBooks isn't
running.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
