#1712 — Need help with an obscure video card

I have a "Rainbo-256" video card which is labeled "Slotware by Microtek".
This card was standard equipment with the Apple2 Robo-Cad systems, which my
2e was.

This card has two spring-loaded connectors that would be used to connect to
a component on the motherboard. I'm assuming this is for connect to video
signalling.
I have the software to test it but I don't know where to connect the two
leads.
Any thoughts??

Also, I have been trying to find Robo-Cad documentation but have not been
successful. If anyone knows of any, please let me know.

Thanks!

Thej,

I'm also a Robo CAD 2 guy. I've got the manual here, and on page 1-10 it
mentions the MicroTek Rainbo 256 RGB card, but other than suggesting it be
placed in Slot 7, there are no installation instructions that I can see.

Antoine scanned the docs from the British RoboCOM BitStik software
(forerunner of Robo CAD 2), and has them up, I believe. It _may_ be more
specific. I don't currently have the link, but I can find it if Antoine
doesn't chime in first.

Steven Hirsch had at one time planned to scan the Robo CAD 2 docs, but I'm
not sure whether he's been able to do so. If you have a specific question,
just let me know.

I use(d) both CAD 2 and CAD 1+, and patched-out the need for that blasted
gameport dongle. It does use DOS volume numbers, so it's a challenge to make
it work with most emulators.

Regards,

Hugh Hood

<groan..> Sorry about that. I don't have Robo CAD 2 docs per se. The binder
I received has a bunch of blue addendum pages inserted at various points in
the Robo CAD 1 docs. Not sure how well these will scan, but I have it out on
my desk now to remind me to at least try...

Steven:

Please don't put the Robo manual scan on the front burner on my account. And
please don't ask me about all the projects that I haven't gotten around to.
:-)

FWIW, my manual is also a CAD-1 with the blue CAD-2 inserts. It seems we
paid almost $1500.00 for that software, but were happy to have it, even with
the piecemeal manual.

Here's the quick link I found for the British RoboCOM Bitstik 1500 manuals,
BTW.

_manuals.zip>

Antoine may have them on his site too, since I think he did all the work.

Unfortunately, I didn't notice any details for installing the RGB card.

Based on this thread:

Here is the link to a _different_ manufacturer's RGB card manual, but it
also uses (2) spring-loaded connectors that are attached to the motherboard.

%20Cards/Video/Teknika%20MA-RGB7/Manuals/Teknika%20MA-RGB7%20-%20Manual.pdf>

See pages 7-8 in the manual (for either II+ or Rev. B IIe) to see where the
clips go for _that_ card. It appears that the Red lead goes to the left side
of resistor R7, and that the Blue lead goes to the right side of resistor
R34.

Remember, this is for a _different_ manufacturer's RGB card -- but, yours
may need the same two motherboard signals.

Obviously, if you can't risk making a fatal mistake, please don't try it.
I'm not savvy enough to know if connecting to those resistors can smoke
something.

Best of luck.
