The one for Lawless Legends doesn't meet aPLib's compression level because it's targeting a different use-case.

(https://github.com/mist64/pucrunch) pucrunch produces a smaller file for Airheart's title page (a couple of hundred bytes less!), but has a slightly bigger decompressor instead. Overall still smaller, so that's worth investigating porting to the Apple II for future titles.

Hmm. I'm sure a couple of rounds of golf will have it smaller... :-) actually, demoscene code is going to be tough to golf.

Martin replaced it recently, concurrently with your awesome Prodos hacks. It's worth another look. :) -B

> Martin replaced it recently, concurrently with your awesome Prodos hacks. It's worth another look. :) :-) Yes, I helped to write the decompressor. He's still favouring speed over size, though. In my case, it's only the double-hires title screen that's compressed. If that takes a bit longer to load but fits in only two tracks, then I'm fine with that.

> Care to describe the different use case please? TIA Favouring decompression speed over compressed size. aPLib compresses really well but decompression is slow (many hundreds of cycles per byte in some cases).

Ah, gotcha. Yeah that's the classic trade-off with compression: * Slow and Small, or * Fast and Huge
