Code was also reduced by over 100 bytes from a starting size of 350 bytes or so. And the optimizer is really only a backend optimizer. The size reduction also helps with JIT candidates which have a default max size of 96 bytes (chosen somewhat empirically through a bunch of tests). The additional byte codes in PLASMA 2.0 were specifically targeted to help with common code sequences and FOR/NEXT loops. There are a few more I wanted to add, but the JIT compiler for the existing byte codes is right at 8K - my self imposed limit on JITC size. Always tradeoffs. Dave...

I can get the other video modes working, but the "140x192 16-COLOR HIRES" mode you use in the demo is throwing me. Looks like it's in bank 0 - $2000 and $4000 for even/odd and the nibbles interleaved? Can you shed some light on how that video mode works? > > F So it's pretty much the 560x192 mode but interpreted as 4BPP, 16 shades of grey or color (depending on what's hooked up to the video ports). Just like Double HiREs on the //e and //c. Due to the way the Apple /// maps screen memory, it's very difficult to read and write directly to the screen. You need a helper, this is where the device driver comes in - but it's a slow API. Someday I'll get the HGRLIB ported to the Apple ///.
