As I wait impatiently for my Apple ][+ to arrive, I how I should set up the computer and the work environment. 35+ years since I last programmed on one. I haven't been following the threads here, but I do know I don't have a super serial card in the machine that's coming, but it does have 2 disk drives. I see a lot of talk about Uthernet, which I assume is an 8-bit specific ethernet. I did order a Floppy Emu to have some way to store files. What hardware/software would you recommend. I would probably be writing everything in 6502 Assembler.

I used Merlin Pro with dual 5.25" disks for years to do all my assembly programming. This system is entirely workable and practical. (And you know that must be true because 99% of all Apple software ever written was done this way) I have since upgraded to a Compact Flash, solid state system. Having a Transwarp accelerator is very nice for assembly time. -- ]DF$ The Marina IP stack for Apple II-- http://marina.a2hq.com/

I would probably be writing everything in 6502 Assembler. Hi Norman, For the software part, if you're going to be programming in 6502 assembler, I'd recommend Lisa. Other popular choices are Big Mac, Merlin, and DOS Toolkit. If you are looking to write assembly code on a PC for execution on your Apple II, I recommend the cross-assembler SBASM or CC65. SBASM is fairly focused on 6502 assembler, whereas CC65 provides a robust tool chain, giving additional capabilities. ADTPro is a great way to move files between a PC and an Apple II, but I think a super serial card is required (that's how I have it setup). I'm not familiar with ethernet options, but others on the forum will likely have advice on that. Mark
