As a computer veteran/programmer of 20+ years I am ashamed that I didn't realize the disk name in Filer is NOT the name of a disk(VOLUME) when accessed by Apple II software. Knowing this and taking all your advice about prefixes I am now able to create/format disks and save and run 6502 assembly language programs! Thank you all for your patience, and I hope you will be just as generous in helping with any other problems I might have. Can't wait to get my hands dirty-maybe even in a few years I'll be able to translate my BASIC and Pascal games. :)

If you haven't yet read the Prodos technical reference manual, this is a good time to do so: http://www.easy68k.com/paulrsm/6502/PDOS8TRM.HTM

Happens to the best of us -- it is not always "obvious" until afterwards. As they say "Hindsight is 20/20." Looking forward to seeing what you code up in the future !

One last thing: Can anyone suggest a good book on 6502 assembly dealing with graphics? Even a website would suffice. For the past couple of months I have been reading Assembly Language, Step-by-Step, and Assembly Lines, The Book. Great reads for getting accustomed to bits and bytes, but neither details how to go about coding graphics, let alone activating lo-res/high-res screens.

I've only really read and followed the examples in the first, though I have skimmed the other two. I think most books infer that you are familiar with the apple computer and its ROM calls before delving into the book. After all, you are wanting to program in assembly language. This ROM call chart with a list of ROM calls should help you with that. Scroll down to the graphics routines secion. http://mirrors.apple2.org.za/ftp.apple.asimov.net/documentation/magazines/misc/theappleorchard_v1n1_applesoftinternalentrypoints_ocr.pdf

Some useful books are: Apple II reference manual Apple IIe technical reference manual Inside the Apple II (or inside the apple IIe) You should be able to find PDFs of any of these in seconds on Google. I had a book on high resolution graphics a long time ago but I found it to be mostly useless. The hardware manuals above were more helpful to me.

Great reads for getting accustomed to bits and bytes, but neither details how to go about coding graphics, let alone activating lo-res/high-res screens. You might take a look at the new edition of Assembly Lines. The missing second volume (now in the "Complete" book) contains all of the graphics articles. You can download a free PDF from: https://archive.org/details/AssemblyLinesCompleteWagner Or you can purchase a hardcover from: http://www.amazon.com/Assembly-Lines-Complete-Roger-Wagner/dp/1312089407 It's also available for a much cheaper price from Lulu. Well worth it (not that I'm biased). -Chris
