Like multitasking environments, TCP/IP stacks are one of those timeless and
mythical pursuits that spawn an awful lot of talking and dreaming and
planning. The thing is possible on the Apple II, but is it entirely
practical? The question is irrelevant; it's the challenge of building it
that matters.

This article is an attempt to list all known TCP/IP implementations, and the
features thereof, that are compatible with any model of Apple II. This list
is in rough order of when each implementation was first begun. It took me
about 3 hours to compile this information; please let me know of any factual
errors or important omissions. Thanks.

Hi,

>This article is an attempt to list all known TCP/IP implementations, and the

Nice :-)

>please let me know of any factual
>errors or important omissions. Thanks.

- "Further releases of Marinetti added additional link layer drivers
for PPP, MacIP, and the Uthernet card. Domain name resolution was
added, and many bugs were fixed."

I'd suggest to omit Uthernet here as it sort of gives the impression
that Uthernet support was coming soon - even before LANceGS support.

- "IP gained IPv6 support in 2008, making it the only TCP/IP stack for
Apple II to support the next-generation internetworking protocol."

Although there's no conceptual issue nobody has ever tried to build
IPv6 with cc65 - not even talking about squeezing it into the A2 RAM
together with a substantial application.

- Contiki "Available applications:"

There's additionally a Telnet server.

- "ip65"

From all I know it's 'IP65', not 'ip65'.

I presume that you tried the URLs in your article. That one redirects
to 'http://oliverschmidt.github.io/ip65/' so why not use that one?
Jonno handed maintainance of IP65 to me in end of 2013 so my GitHub
page is the "official" homepage of IP65.

- General remarks

It might be interesting to note that Contiki 1.x was an integrated
desktop environment that loaded applications dynamically while Contiki
2.x focuses on individual standalone applications. See
http://hitmen.c02.at/html/tools_contiki.html for Contiki 1.x
background info.

It might be interesting to note that since summer 2014 IP65 uses the
actual Contiki link layers:

Regards,
Oliver

Updated with new information, corrected some mistakes.

Also, the BSD sockets API for Marina is super-close to being finished. Take
a look at my blog to see what's new and coming soon.

The latest version available from the Marinetti homepage is 3.0b3, released on July 26, 2006. Later versions of various components have been made available to interested parties for testing purposes - usually after they have reported a bug and a fix has been applied. The Sweet16 Starter Kit available from Ewen Wannop's page includes version 3.0b7 of the TCPIP Init.
