I've just updated the Marina web site with some more documentation-- this
time intended for the programming set. The URL is
http://marina.a2hq.com/mtl/

and there's also a link to it on the Marina home page, right under the
User's Manual download.

Right now it's just a big list of RFCs that I'm using to build Marina. My
own notes are listed, but there's no links to them yet until I get them all
organized.

Source code release is coming as soon as I get the DNS resolver finished,
which is about 75% complete. I've also fixed more bugs and completed more
sections of code for better RFC compliance.

Following this release I plan to start on an &ampersand interface for UDP so
that the thing can be used from Applesoft BASIC. That's been another dream
of mine, actually when I first asked Glenn Jones about the Uthernet, a BASIC
interface is one of the things we discussed.

I think aiiaddict has the right idea in coming up with games for this. They
sure make better demonstration apps than a tcpdump thing! Gaming is the
direction that I want to take with Marina. I don't think we have any
Internet games so far, am I wrong?

Hi Dave,

>I don't think we have any Internet games so far, am I wrong?

I'm not sure if you are aware that there are a few things for the C64:

Artillery Duel Network
http://csdb.dk/release/?id=45526

NetRacer
http://csdb.dk/release/?id=67873

Vortex 2
http://www.slideshare.net/leifbloomquist1/new-commodore-64-netwo

Conceptually it would be possible to re-implement NetRacer on the
Apple2 and multi-play together with C64s :-)

Regards,
Oliver

It would be excellent to bring some of the vintage computers
together into one project. I see that there may be an adapter
to allow the Carte Blanche II to be used on the C64, and since
I am getting 3 of those, I may as well get that adapter, too,
and use one of them on one of my C64's. I was going to design
something to allow some Apple II slot cards to work in one or
more of the Atari 8-bits. This may be the incentive I need.

Hi Bill,

Yep! While in former times I was only into the Apple II now my retro
activities include the CBMs and Ataris too. My primary projects cc65,
'Contiki for Retro-Computing' and IP65 are all "cross traget". However
so far those machines are usually not avtually connected to each
other.

It would be great if you drop me a pm if you actually do so. Both
Contiki and IP65 work nicely on the Atari (and cc65 by now has nice
support for the Atari XL RAM) with an http://www.atari8ethernet.com/
cart. But those were only available for a short time so it would be
interesting to be able to use an Uthernet / Uthernet II on the Atari.

Or maybe you would be be interested to create an Atari cart with a
WIZnet W5100 chip. I'm for sure no hardware guy but I've read people
stating that it wouldn't be exactly rocket science using a breakout
board like the https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9473 ...

Oliver

Way back when, I was only into the Atari computers and
game systems. I wish I had selected the Apple II then,
but I have no regrets.

That is a nice cart. Have you seen the IDE hard drive cart?

Well, I have quite a bit on my plate right now, but that
does sound like something I might want to try at some point.
By the way, that board is out of stock at most vendors.
It is a very popular board.

No, because I live in a cave with an Apple logo over the entrance! :-)
Thanks for letting me know.
