I'm trying to identify this nifty pixel-by-pixel HGR dissolve/ swap routine I found on an old disk of my programs. I knew I didn't write it and after a good deal of searching of Asimov disk images (and finding it used in several different products), it seems it originated in the pages of Nibble Magazine. It can be found on the "Three Minute Apple Programs" disk image under the name DISSOLVE. I still have no idea how it ended up in my files. Can anyone tell me in which issue of Nibble it appeared and by what author? 0300: A9 00 LDA #$00 0302: 85 FB STA $00FB 0304: 85 FC STA $00FC 0306: 85 FE STA $00FE 0308: AA TAX 0309: A9 20 LDA #$20 030B: 85 FD STA $00FD 030D: A9 40 LDA #$40 030F: 85 FF STA $00FF 0311: A0 00 LDY #$00 0313: B1 FE LDA ($FE),Y 0315: 51 FC EOR ($FC),Y 0317: 3D 41 03 AND $0341,X 031A: 48 PHA 031B: 51 FC EOR ($FC),Y 031D: 91 FC STA ($FC),Y 031F: 68 PLA 0320: 51 FE EOR ($FE),Y 0322: 91 FE STA ($FE),Y 0324: E8 INX 0325: E0 07 CPX #$07 0327: 90 02 BCC $032B 0329: A2 00 LDX #$00 032B: C8 INY 032C: D0 E5 BNE $0313 032E: E6 FF INC $00FF 0330: E6 FD INC $00FD 0332: A5 FD LDA $00FD 0334: C9 40 CMP #$40 0336: 90 D9 BCC $0311 0338: E6 FB INC $00FB 033A: A5 FB LDA $00FB 033C: C9 07 CMP #$07 033E: 90 C8 BCC $0308 0340: 60 RTS 0341: 04 DATA %00000100 0342: 10 DATA %00010000 0343: 02 DATA %00000010 0344: 88 DATA %10001000 0345: 40 DATA $01000000 0346: 20 DATA $00100000 0347: 01 DATA $00000001 0300: A9 00 85 FB 85 FC 85 FE 0308: AA A9 20 85 FD A9 40 85 0310: FF A0 00 B1 FE 51 FC 3D 0318: 41 03 48 51 FC 91 FC 68 0320: 51 FE 91 FE E8 E0 07 90 0328: 02 A2 00 C8 D0 E5 E6 FF 0330: E6 FD A5 FD C9 40 90 D9 0338: E6 FB A5 FB C9 07 90 C8 0340: 60 04 10 02 88 40 20 01

John, If you download the Asimov index.txt and search it for the word "nibble", among other nibble things, you will find a whole section of nibble magazines in this directory: ftp://public.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/documentation/magazines/nibble Yours truly, James Davis

I'll bet the nibble magazines were probably removed from Asimov at the request of the official website, "<http://www.nibblemagazine.com/>," who now sells the whole set of PDFs on DVDs.

I have serious doubts it can be found since it seemingly never made it onto the various Nibble Magazine program disks. I've searched every different way I can think of, just short of manually booting every last disk (which will surely happen). I'm guessing it was only ever printed in the book. Thank you everyone else for helping me to look into this. It's really interesting to me how this cute little routine has gotten around. I'll continue searching and if I find anything definitive, I'll follow up here.

I just found this disk which narrowed things down greatly. This routine was indeed a "One-Line Winner" printed in the July, 1985, issue of Nibble Magazine. The magazine summary is printed with virtually the same wording as the book. Thanks again to everyone for the help. That goes double for Antoine. :)
