Hi there. First posting from Snap on the GS here, so apologies if the headers are messed up or something! I have been playing around with a trivial Python program to act as an HTTP->HTTPS proxy, allowing a retro machine to request HTTPS pages. I would like to hack support for my 'proxy' into the Contiki Web Browser. The Contiki code, including the apps, is on GitHub so I grabbed it. However it seems that there are no makefiles to build the apps 'out of the box'. Am I missing something? What do I need to build WEBBROWSE.SYSTEM? All the best, Bobbi

Rest assured, SNAP on the IIgs does not make messed up headers! :-) > What do I need to build WEBBROWSE.SYSTEM? > You need Oliver Schmidt, who is the Contiki maintainer, and who I'm sure can give you the low-down on building these apps. -- ]DF$ The New Apple II User's Guide: https://macgui.com/newa2guide/

Hi Bobbi, > > I would like to hack support for my 'proxy' into the Contiki Web Browser. Maybe you want to consider to implement a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_server#Transparent_proxy instead. > > However it seems that there are no makefiles to build the apps 'out of the box'. For sure ;-) There are two entry points into the build system: 1. For building the distro disk images: https://github.com/oliverschmidt/contiki/blob/master/tools/6502/Makefile 2. For building a single app for testing purposes: I presume you looked at https://github.com/oliverschmidt/contiki/tree/master/apps/webbrowser but you have to look at https://github.com/oliverschmidt/contiki/tree/master/examples/webbrowser-80col where you'll find https://github.com/oliverschmidt/contiki/blob/master/examples/webbrowser-80col/Makefile Have fun, Oliver

I agree a 'proper' web proxy would be the best way to go, although my dirty hack has the advantage of working reasonably well without any client support. I am thinking of writing a simple POP3/SMTP email program for ProDOS, but I am just in the planning / high-level design phase right now. All the best, Bobbi

Hi Bobbi, > I am thinking of writing a simple POP3/SMTP email program for ProDOS, but I am just in the planning / high-level design phase right now. I presume you're already aware of https://github.com/oliverschmidt/contiki/tree/master/examples/email - not that I'm saying that it is great in any aspect. Additionally I'd like to mention that Contiki is a - from my POV - not exactly easy-to-understand _framework_. You have to integrate your code "into" Contiki. In contrast https://github.com/cc65/ip65 has a less elegant design but is - again from my POV - easier to grasp. It's more like a _library_ you integrate into your code. Regards, Oliver
